Since 2008, an increasing number of solar panels have started appearing on the rooftops of (all types) of American homes.  The cost of “going solar” is coming down at the same time more Americans are showing a concern for environmentally friendly and cost-effective options over traditional power.  The increase in solar use is due in part to the Solar Energy Technologies Office’s (SETO) investments which establishes subsidies for adaptation of solar energy as well as incentives for research and development of new technologies.  In 2011 SETO launched the SunShot Initiative with the objective of making solar electricity costs competitive with other generation sources by 2020, without subsidies.

According to the Solar Industries Association (SIA), over 1.8 million US households have gone solar. If you are considering joining them by adding a solar energy system to your home, you’ll find there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Here are some helpful resources and interesting facts:

While there is growing national interest in ‘going solar’ some states have higher adaptation rates typically related to geography, weather and financial incentives. No surprise that Florida is ranked in the top ten states for solar power installations – and especially in sunny Orlando.  In fact, Lennar Orlando rolled out their first solar community in 2016 when they put a new spin on eco-friendly with the grand opening of Innovation Estates at Storey Park.

Wherever you call home and whenever you are in your going-green journey, we hope you will take a good look at the benefits of going solar.  And, check out Lennar’s Open Door Blog for more ways to make your house your home.

(January 2019) One of North Carolina’s best-kept secrets, Davidson has long been home to one of the country’s top liberal arts institutions. But with its quality of life and proximity to regional attractions, it doesn’t take long to realize that the town offers much more than a world-class college.

That’s why we’ve carved out space of our own and rolled out homes in communities like Westbranch and Davidson East. Now selling, these communities offer our latest single-family homes in an excellent part of town. Here are four reasons we think you’ll love it here:

  1. A historic downtown strip, with a variety of up-and-coming restaurants, stores, and entertainment. Check out Summit Coffee for a morning pick-me-up or grab dinner at Kindred, an acclaimed restaurant experience named in Bon Appetit’s “Hot 10 List.”
  2. Proximity to Lake Norman, the largest man-made lake in North Carolina with over 500 miles of shoreline. The Town of Davidson and our Westbranch and Davidson East communities are within 15 minutes of public boat access, fishing, and watersports for all ages.
  3. Davidson College, the higher education hub with a storied history dating back to 1837. Enjoy a stroll through the campus’ winding walkways or embrace the Wildcats’ basketball program, home to Golden State Warriors superstar and alumni Stephen Curry.
  4. The Davidson Farmer’s Market, a year-round market featuring over 35 farmers and local producers from within a 100-mile radius. The downtown market takes place every Saturday morning and has plenty of food, music, and artisan finds.

Now selling just minutes from downtown Davidson, our Westbranch community offers townhome and single-family models starting in the mid $200s. HOUSTON, TX (March 4, 2019) – One of Houston’s largest homebuilders has introduced a limited-time offer providing homebuyers with much-needed financial flexibility as they go through the home buying process.

Now through May 31, 2019, Lennar will only require $65 in earnest money on the sale of any of its new homes, regardless of price point or Houston-area community, a big departure from typical earnest money requirements of up to three percent of a new home’s purchase price.

In contrast, a $300,000 new home may require anywhere from $3,000 – $9,000 in earnest money, depending on the homebuilder.

“Buyers should be able to keep money in their pocket rather than let it sit in escrow,” says John Hammond, Houston division president of Lennar.  “Plus, it gives them the flexibility to use that money to pay for a move, new furniture or however they see fit.”

Fully refundable during the option period, earnest money is a good-faith payment that demonstrates a buyer’s commitment to purchase a home.  Earnest money ultimately is applied to the down payment at closing.

Lennar’s limited-time earnest money promotion applies to any new Lennar home in the Houston area, all of which include the homebuilder’s Everything’s Included® features of granite kitchen countertops, designer cabinetry with crown molding and stainless steel appliances, programmable thermostats, Low-E windows and other Energy-Efficiencies

Starting in the $200s in several Houston neighborhoods, new homes by Lennar present the most advanced in Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ Home Design technology allowing homeowners to control their lights, front door locks, and thermostat through voice-activated home automation.

A contract must be written for a new home to close by May 31, 2019 to quality for the $65 earnest money promotion.

Lennar is part of Lennar Corp., established in 1954 as one of the nation’s leading homebuilders.

It’s baseball season in Florida and you know what that means – peanuts, crackerjacks, and cold brews on warm afternoons.

It’s always exciting when the top baseball teams migrate south to practice their swings and pitches. Enthusiasts can scope out the new season’s talent and rub elbows with big-name players while the rest of us can simply enjoy spending time outside and snacking on ballpark staples.

Since most team’s home fields are covered in snow, some teams have wisely chosen sunny Florida for its training season. Players can continue to play outside in warm, sunny, weather similar to that of the official season, while also avoiding cold weather-related injuries. Floridian fans also benefit, enjoying weekday afternoon games.

At George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, you can catch one of the winningest teams in the country, The New York Yankees, as they train for the official season. According to Sports Illustrated, the New York Yankees are the new favorite to win the World Series in 2019. With the team’s migration comes some of the most talented players in the league. Starting this month, Tampa will welcome names like Jacoby Ellsbury, Masahiro Tanaka, and Giancarlo Stanton.

Other notable teams training in the area include The Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers, The Philadelphia Phillies in nearby Clearwater, The New York Mets in Port St. Lucie and The Pittsburg Pirates in Bradenton. For all the loyal Tampa Bay Rays fans, you can find your team training about 100 miles south in Port Charlotte.

Games are mostly for practice so they’re typically laid back and fairly intimate. Friends, family, co-workers and event out-of-town guests will also enjoy an afternoon at the ballpark, up close and personal with some of the country’s best professional athletes.

The spring baseball season kicks off on Saturday, February 23 between the most legendary rivalry – the Yankees versus the Red Sox at Jet Blue Park in St. Petersburg. Training season will continue up until the Opening Day of the regular season, traditionally the first week of April. So, get out there and root, root, root for the home team this season.

The full 2019 Training schedule can be found here.
