As many of us continue working from home, not everyone has a separate home office area, which can be a struggle sometimes! So how do you create a productive home office environment without having an actual home office? Follow our tips below to find out how to make the most of your space – and how to make your space work for you.

1. Find a place to sit and put your laptop

This seems like a no-brainer, but if you don’t have a designated place to create your office, then working from home can be quite challenging. While it might be tempting to camp out and work from your sofa, it’s not the most practical or productive set-up…especially if your sofa is right next to your television!

2. Utilize unused space

Think outside the box! Perhaps you have space underneath your stairs, an entryway or hallway, or even a blank wall. All of these would make great places to set up an office area, or transform what is already there into something new.

3. Use the furniture you have

If you don’t have a desk, don’t worry! There are plenty of options for utilizing what pieces you already have at home. Transform your side tables or accent chest into a makeshift desk, or even convert your dining table to a comfortable office space. For seating options, utilize an ottoman, accent chair, bar stool, or even a yoga ball. This is also a fantastic time to try out the standing desk practice you’ve been thinking about!

4. Separation

This is key to creating a productive work environment at home. Whether you need to distance yourself from the television or your children, having a little separation will allow you to focus your full attention on your work. Try creating a little office nook in the corner of your bedroom, a guest room, or an area of your living room that’s furthest away from the action.

5. Organization

Like any space in your home, organization goes hand-in-hand with staying on track and creating a calming environment. Keep your space organized with a cup for your pens and pencils, a journal that matches your décor, and somewhere to put your paperwork. Not only does having a stylish office space look good, but it can help boost creativity.

Just south of Raleigh, NC is a beautiful small town named Holly Springs, NC. It’s a place where residents enjoy nature, convenience, and Southern charm. It’s been voted the safest town in America by SafeWise and has been given an A+ in living quality by Niche. It’s also the location of our latest new home community, The Mills at Avent Ferry. This new community is a fantastic place to call home where you’ll find distinct floor plans offering spacious rooms, gourmet kitchens, and much more.

While Holly Springs is an incredible town, sometimes it’s best to learn about a place from a local. We spoke with Holly who, along with her family, has been happy to call Holly Springs home for 18 years!

How has it changed since you first moved to Holly Springs?

The town has grown so much during our time here. There used to be very little shopping and restaurants except for fast food. Now we have our own shopping center including Target, Ulta, and new local boutiques. There are also new and fun restaurant options including My Way Tavern, Michelangelo’s Pizza, Mason Jar Tavern, local breweries, and more.

What local attractions do your families regularly visit?

We love to visit our two big parks – Womble Park, which is a soccer park that has a paved trail and open areas, and Ting Park which has a baseball field, soccer park, etc. We often head to Harris Lake as well, just down the road. Thanks to Holly Springs’ growth the area has lots more stuff for the kids to do too.

What are your favorite places to go in Holly Springs?

We always like to check out the local shops, especially Mama Bird’s Ice Cream!

How has your morning commuting been while living in Holly Springs?

It used to take a while to get to workplaces in Raleigh. Now, thanks to the convenience of I-540, we can get anywhere in the Triangle in about 20 minutes. I work near Research Triangle Park, and my commute is a breeze with very little congestion.

Are there multiple options for groceries?

Definitely. We have every store you could imagine including Food Lion, Lowes Foods, Harris Teeter, Walmart, you name it. I am especially excited that we are getting a brand-new Wegman’s soon.

Do your children like the Holly Springs schools?

Holly Springs is known for having great schools, and I’ve seen it first-hand. My kids love the schools, they have a lot of friends from the neighborhood, and they all get to go to the same school, which helps them establish lasting friendships. Plus, once they graduate, they have the cream of the crop to choose from for colleges!

Are there healthcare facilities nearby?

Yes! In fact, a local REX Healthcare facility is adding a new 50-bed hospital that will be open next year.
