With the holiday season quickly approaching, now is the time to begin preparing. One thing everyone loves- welcome gifts! You don’t want to forget about your new neighbors who have recently moved into your community. These are the people who can become a staple in your life for a few years or even decades!

What is something everyone loves during the holidays- or really any day- COOKIES! Who doesn’t have a sweet tooth after a big meal? A great way to make your new neighbors feel welcome this holiday season is a simple treat. “Cookies in a Jar” are sure to be loved by everyone.

This is a fun way to get the entire family of all ages involved in some festive cheer. The kids will love helping combine all the ingredients and probably sneaking a few chocolate chips along the way. You can even have them write a special card to say welcome and Happy Holidays. Here’s what you need to make these holiday treats come alive!

Simply combine flour, baking soda, and salt, add this to the bottom of your jar. Next up- sugar! Just layer the white and brown sugar then top it off with chocolate chips. Of course, feel free to add as many as you like… remember it’s the time to indulge a bit so be kind with your amount of chocolate chips!

All your happy neighbors will need to complete their treats is ¾ cup of butter and an egg! That’s right, that’s it. You can also whip up a small directional card to tie to the jar- check out this example below! You can type this up and print on some fun holiday paper. If you want to take an extra step, find some fun cookie cutters and tie them to the jars!

It’s the season for gratitude and although this year’s plans might look different, there’s no reason why this Thanksgiving can’t still be full of excitement. We’ve put together a list of things you and your family can do now to make this Thanksgiving memorable. After all, the best memories are made at home!

Don’t wait – get in the spirit today

It’s never too early to get into the holiday spirit. Light a fall scented candle, round the family up to watch heartwarming holiday movies cozied up on the couch or explore fall themed cocktails. For décor, create a centerpiece from either painted pumpkins, maize vases or flowers that will impress even the toughest critic in your family. If your tradition is to enjoy the holiday outside, hang up string lights, grab some knit pillows, faux-fur throws and anything plaid that will help enhance the space and create a warm and very fall atmosphere.

Plan a virtual Thanksgiving meal

With many people unable to fly or avoiding large gatherings, your Thanksgiving might feel like it’s missing a few key people. Consider coordinating a virtual Thanksgiving breakfast, lunch or dinner! Whip up delectable treats, dress the part (meaning get out of those pajamas!) and enjoy a festive virtual meal with loved ones, chatting through some of your favorite memories and saying what you’re thankful for.

Get your ingredients early

You don’t want to be that person in the grocery store on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving that’s still gathering things the need. Not only will the grocery stores be chaotic, but they might not have a full stock so late in the game. Make your game plan early enough so that you still have time in case of any surprises. From the signature turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn and candied yams, create a list of all the foods your family loves – and maybe throw in new ones too.

Attend a parade (from home)

Many local events and parades have been cancelled for health and safety reasons, but several are going digital. The famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City is celebrating its 94th anniversary and this year, they’re moving forward without the crowds and going virtual. That means even if you don’t live in New York you can still enjoy this extraordinary experience right from home. Check out other local parades in your area, they might be going virtual, too, so you can still enjoy some of your usual traditions.

Remember what you’re thankful for

With everything going on in the world today, there’s never been a better time to give thanks for the many things in life you’re grateful for. Whether you had a little one join your family this year or maybe took advantage of historically great interest rates and bought your dream home, look back on the best memories and forward to the year ahead.
