 Newest trends in interior design

Bringing the outdoors in is a timeless design element, but it’s really evolving right now. We are bringing the outdoors in wherever possible and are creating functional outdoor spaces that are just as inviting as the inside of the home. New space planning and design is shifting away from formal spaces. Bi-fold doors that lead to airy California Rooms really support open concept living and extending hard surface such as “wood look” plank tile is great feature that can flow seamlessly throughout indoor and outdoor spaces.

Energy efficiency has become extremely important to buyers, too. They are looking for green features like LED lighting and energy-efficient windows. In addition, industrial design is also trending now and it supports the idea of being more eco-friendly by repurposing materials. Plus, it looks really clean and modern.

Our buyers are looking for a home that will improve their way of living, in big ways or small. Things like USB plug outlets are small details that make a big difference. Or there are grander design elements, like our Next Gen® homes that add so much functional space and make a huge impact in the lives of the families who live in them.

Classic trends making a comeback

Buyers are always going to want granite or marble countertops, but there are a lot of design trends that are making a comeback. Wainscoting wall details add charm to any room and things like vintage lighting and Herringbone patterns can add a lot of character. And wallpaper has come along way since grandma’s house – it’s one of our favorite comeback design elements.

Staging tips to sell your home

When trying to sell your home it needs to appeal to as many buyers as possible. Don’t turn buyers off with loud paint or very taste specific decor. It’s best to keep walls relatively light and neutral and use traditional design elements. It’s also a good idea to take down the family photos and remove any excess clutter. Good staging helps potential buyers envision themselves living in the home you’re trying to sell.

Adding more color in your home

You can add color to a space without painting walls. Pop color with pillows, rugs flowers and artwork. If you do add color to walls, use it sparingly. A painted feature wall can be a great backdrop for a bed or built-in cabinets.

Stylish and comfortable outdoor spaces

When outdoor spaces are done right they can be the most comfortable living area in the home. Create comfy lounge spaces by using outdoor rugs and lantern lighting. You can bring some life into your outdoor space with drought tolerant plants and succulents. Plus, adding an outdoor fire pit and a built-in BBQ will make an outdoor space perfect for entertaining.

Quick ways to add curb appeal

A little goes a long way in adding curb appeal. Clean windows and fresh outdoor paint can really make a home pop. Add in some color coordinating plants and fresh mulch to tie it all together. Outdoor potted plants are a nice detail, too.

Sources of design inspiration

Thankfully, there are many good places to go for design inspiration. Pinterest and Houzz.com are user-friendly online sources of design inspiration. HGTV is a great TV source and we also stay update with fashion magazines and blogs. You can also get really inspired by walking through Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, ZGallerie and other on-trend furniture retailers.
