After searching for a home that would accommodate their needs and provide enough space for their whole family, Dottie Duncan and daughter Alexi McLaughlan found the perfect place in Lennar’s The Home Within a Home® floorplan.
When Alexi decided to go back to school, she moved her husband James and their kids into her mother’s home. “It was crowded, privacy was minimal and no one was very happy,” Alexi stated. It was then that the need for additional space became increasingly apparent.
“We decided to start looking for a home and we came across the Lennar model homes. We looked at them and fell in love,” Dottie said. They’d found The Home Within a Home models, which are like two homes in one, with an entirely private entrance for a second living space within the home.
“They even have their own front door,” Dottie exclaimed. “So if they have guests that come over, they don’t have to worry about disturbing me, they can go through their own front door — I think that it’s important to have your own front door.”
Dottie and Alexi said they love The Home Within a Home because they feel as though each has their own private home. “It’s not just a bedroom that we are secluded to,” Alexi said. “It’s a home. We have a kitchen where we can cook, we can eat late night snacks with our movies and we don’t have to come out and make any noise and wake anyone up. So that’s been really fantastic!”
The change in living space means more than privacy – the comfortable surroundings actually enhance family togetherness. “My favorite thing about the home is the kitchen. I love to cook. We can all cook and the kids can sit at the counter and not get in the way,” said Dottie.
In addition, Alexi remarked that her husband can go into their room and watch his movies and play video games while her mom and she can be in the main home. “I love that we have our own space in the home. Plus, the kids have tons of space and there is plenty of storage for all their stuff.”
