How to Keep Your Kids Busy This Summer

With school out and summer in full effect, kids are officially free from routine. Whether you are a stay-at-home parent or work full-time, you know that keeping the kids busy during the summer is a struggle. Although, kids dream of summer all school year long, once they actually have it, most do not know what to do with all this free time.

If you are wondering how will you keep the kids busy the rest of the summer without breaking the bank, fear no more! Here are 10 ways to keep your kids busy this summer, while also maintaining your sanity:

1.Create a Craft Station

Get your kid’s creative minds working all summer long. Designate an area in your home and transform it into the craft station. Your kids will love having the freedom to see their ideas come to life and you’ll have beautiful pieces of artwork to proudly display in your office or your kitchen fridge.

2. Make a Chore chart

Continue teaching your children the importance of responsibilities by creating a chore chart for everyone in the household. Doing so will allow your children to visually see their assigned chores and track their progress. Keep them motivated with fun incentives like movie nights or ice cream dates.

3. Visit the library

Take a trip to your community’s local library, you might be pleasantly surprised to discover that they are running a summer reading program. If reading does not come easily to your kids, this is a great opportunity to incentivize them to pick up a few books this summer. Who knows, your children might discover a new found love for reading!

4. Get Active Outdoors

Commit to going outdoors a couple of days out of the week and participating in a sport, anything from biking, swimming, jogging, volleyball, etc. Allowing your kids to stay active outdoors will help burn off some of their energy and lead to calmer evenings.

5. Volunteer at a Nonprofit

Teach your children the value of lending a hand to those that need it most this summer. Research what nonprofits are located near your community and sign up your whole family up to volunteer at an organization you’d like to support. Your kids will take pride in taking time to improve their community.
