Fourth of July celebrations at home

4 Ways to Celebrate the 4th of July!

This weekend we celebrate America’s birthday, and although this 4th of July might look a little different in the Portland-Vancouver metro area, with the restrictions of fireworks and need to conserve water, there are still plenty of ways to create new memories with friends and family. Several businesses in the area are opening up their doors just in time for this festive holiday, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it a memorable day by staying right at home with loved ones. We’ve put together four fun ideas that we hope will make your long weekend sparkle even brighter!

Create patriotic décor

The little ones are out of school and the last thing you want is for them to lose their creative spark. Creating red, white and blue décor as well as stars and stripes is a great activity and the options are truly endless. From tablecloths, wreaths, lighting, paper lanterns, banners, centerpieces, napkins, chair covers, serving buckets, place cards and more.

Grill & chill

What’s the real showstopper during the 4th of July? The abundance of scrumptious food! It’s a three-day weekend which means it’s the perfect excuse to dust off that grill and hit the grocery store for some tender meats. Be sure to get a wide range for foodies of every type, like brisket, chicken, hot dogs, steaks, patties and vegetables, as well as cookies, desserts and special treats for the kids (and you!).

Stay cool!

Things are heating up and there’s no better way to beat the heat than with natural water. Search swimming holes near your area and take the kids on an outdoor adventure! But the crowds might be a tad excessive for some, especially during the long weekend, so we have an alternative: stay cool with some homemade ice-cold treats. Yes, I know what you’re thinking. Why homemade? The Portland-Vancouver metro area has a variety of fantastic shops that specifically cater to cold treats, but there’s no denying there’s something unique, fun and special about making it yourself – especially when it’s a group activity with friends, kids and family.  Whether it’s homemade ice cream or lemonade where the kids can have a stand in the front yard to sell, it’s a great way to keep cool during warm weather. Take a stroll through your community

The 4th of July is best celebrated outdoors – even if it’s in your front or backyard. That means more neighbors are going to be hanging out with their family and friends and it’s a great opportunity for you to take a stroll through your neighborhood, say hi to some friends or introduce yourself if you have not yet met them. After all, it’s a social holiday, so get out there and mingle!
