Many of us who are staying home are starting to get a little stir crazy. We’ve seen every Instagram meme ever created, watched all the best YouTube videos, cleaned, and watched as much Tiger King as our animal-loving hearts can take…. now what?
Since it looks like we’ll be staying home more often in the near future – let’s get creative, use this time wisely, upgrade our wardrobes, our homes, our gardens, and upskill while we’re doing it!
Here are our favorite, non-cheesy, DIY projects, even the least crafty folk can enjoy.
Fashion Forward Fun
You don’t need to be Vera Wang to create your own fashion line. You don’t need a lot of money or even necessarily know how to sew. If you have the desire to create and love clothes (I mean, who doesn’t?), then make your own! Geneva Vanderzeil, an Australia DIY blogger, has enough “no-sew” style tutorials on her website, Collective Gen, to last you quite a while.
Ditch plastic bags when you make that essential trip to the grocery store, and do so in style with these four different homemade totes. Are you missing going on vacations to tropical locations? This simple shell jewelry tutorial will remind you of summery days. Practicing self-care in isolation with a daily face mask or nightly routine? Throw a homemade scrunchie in your hair to take it to the next level. No sewing machine at home? This no-sew DIY long sleeve wrap top is easy peasy and is so first-day-out-of-iso-fabulous.
If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can order one on Amazon, or check out Facebook Marketplace – just be sure to practice self-distancing when picking up. We recommend electronically transferring funds through PayPal or Apple Pay or Venmo, requesting that the seller leave the item outside for pickup, then disinfect the machine immediately.
If you’d rather get into textile creation, try tye dying. This white sweatshirt makes for the perfect canvas. For the dye, you can utilize a kit like this one, or if food coloring if you have it handy.
Home Makeover
The #stayhome life has many of feeling inspired to upgrade our living spaces. Since Lennar homes are new-builds, you’re likely not doing any mandatory or even cosmetic upgrades to your home. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still make improvements and add your personal touch, right? So let’s talk about ways you can elevate your living spaces with a few fun DIY projects.
Jenna Sue Design’s DIY Antique Elm Stool is the perfect project when you love a rich antique look at a Walmart price point. This is the best rustic wood tutorial we’ve seen, and it’s something anyone willing and able to be patient can do. These beautiful stools can be purchased at counter height so you can slide them under your breakfast nook or island. Imagine showing these homemade beauties off while entertaining post quarantine.
Many of us are working from home these days. It’s a controversial subject. But regardless of how you feel about it, you likely want whatever space you’re working in to be comfortable. If you’re new to working from home and don’t have a desk, you’re probably finding that most are sold out! So building a desk may be a choice, or it may be a necessity, either way, we have you covered with these beautiful DIY desks perfect for your home office. This DIY writing desk tutorial is ideal for the modernly designed home, and this farmhouse style desk is suitable for all you Fixer-Upper fans!
We’re all eating more meals at home these days – whether you’re ordering in, taking out, or cooking up a feast of your own. If you’re sick and tired of looking at your existing dining situation, you may be contemplating an upgrade. Rather than purchasing a whole new set – try upgrading them with a DIY slipcover like this or reupholstering using the techniques in this tutorial.
Garden Glorification
Fresh air is keeping us sane in these troubling times of isolation. If you’re fortunate enough to have an outdoor space of your own, you may be looking into upgrading it and making it more livable. Outdoor living is such a blessing at all times of years. Here are a few ways you can make your outdoor space an oasis.
One thing we’re loving doing during this time is outdoor movies. You can create a little outdoor cinema with a white sheet, rope, and a portable projector like this one. Make the seating cozy with blankets, beanbags, and cushions.
If you want to take your quarantine cooking skills outside and switch up your dining experience, there are a few things you do. For one, you can start your own veggie garden. Not only is gardening enjoyable, but harvesting and cooking with produce you grew is a gratifying experience. You can also build a little outdoor cooking space by adding counter space near your grill or installing a pizza oven.
However you choose to spend your time in quarantine, we hope you’re enjoying yourself, and we hope you’re all staying safe, healthy and well!
