Summer is just around the corner and with rising temps, many of us will be lounging near the pool to quell the scorching heat. While fencing and a watchful eye are helpful in keeping your loved ones safe, here are a few tips to keep in mind to ensure a happy and responsible pool day.

Designate a pool “lifeguard”

With so many distractions at play, the pool can be a bit scary for a parent to navigate. Help alleviate possible drowning by placing an adult in the pool at all times. Always supervise your children and have an adult stay within range to guarantee quick assistance if a child begins to struggle in the water.

Keep emergency equipment nearby

You should have at least 2 fully equipped first aid kits close by and a pull hook for moments when someone or something is unable to be easily reached. Having a reliable phone on hand is also suggested if an emergency call needs to be placed.

Know CPR

Learning CPR is perhaps one of the most important things a person can do. By knowing this lifesaving skill, you gain the opportunity of providing critical aid to potential drowning victims. Community classes are often offered at no-cost so be sure to check out your local centers.

Don’t forget about your pets

Fencing your pool not only keeps your little ones safe, but it also provides extra security for your fur friends as well. If your pet likes to take a dip once in a while, it’s a good idea to invest in a threshold alarm that alerts you if your pool gate stays open for more than a few seconds. This is useful if your pet tends to stay in the backyard for a duration of time. Teaching your pet to use the appropriate enter/exist steps is another great tip as it guarantees their safety in going in and out of the water.

Take these tips into consideration and enjoy a hot and healthy summer!

The largest single contribution to City of Hope Orange County will establish Lennar Foundation Cancer Center to accelerate the vision of eradicating cancer and creating healthier communities.

World-renowned cancer research and treatment center City of Hope has received a $50 million gift from Lennar Foundation, the charitable arm of homebuilder Lennar Corporation. This transformational gift of hope is the largest single philanthropic contribution to City of Hope Orange County. It will expedite the health care organization’s bold plans to invest $1 billion to develop and operate a comprehensive cancer campus in Irvine, California, and establish an Orange County network of advanced cancer care and research that will speed groundbreaking treatments directly to a community with growing needs.

The future 190,000-square-foot Lennar Foundation Cancer Center at City of Hope Orange County will be located on 11 acres at Five Point’s Great Park in the heart of Irvine. It will bring best-in-class cancer care, pioneering research and lifesaving treatments to the county’s 3.2 million residents. Construction is already underway on the comprehensive cancer center, which will open in 2022. In addition, Orange County’s only hospital dedicated exclusively to treating and curing cancer will open at City of Hope Irvine in 2025.

City of Hope’s presence in Orange County offers local access to City of Hope’s National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center with world-renowned cancer physicians and researchers who are singularly focused on finding better treatments and cures. Lennar Foundation Cancer Center at City of Hope Orange County will bring to the region a host of distinguishing services, including:

As the country emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, Lennar Foundation’s extraordinary contribution underscores the importance of investing in local health care resources and increasing access to leading-edge care. For Orange County, it is a reminder that cancer does not stop, and that City of Hope’s mission is more important than ever.

Lennar has a long history in Orange County of developing thriving communities, including helping form the vision for a world-class recreation and lifestyle destination. This gift is an extension of this longstanding commitment to improving lives in the regions Lennar helps shape.  A portion of the gift to City of Hope is designated to support clinical translational research between City of Hope and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of Miami, thus uniting two organizations supported by Lennar’s generosity who share similar goals in developing new treatments and cures for patients with cancer.

City of Hope and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center serve two of the most diverse areas in the United States. Both organizations are committed to conducting high-impact research that addresses the cancer burden in their communities. This gift will enable collaborative, translational science that will drive innovation and catalyze timely and necessary progress towards health equity.

Lennar Foundation’s gift to City of Hope is a generous continuation of Lennar’s longstanding support of the comprehensive cancer center. Jon Jaffe, co-chief executive officer and co-president of Lennar Corporation, is a member of City of Hope’s Construction Industries Alliance Leadership Advisory Council, which raises funds for cancer treatment and research. In recognition of his contributions, Jaffe was awarded City of Hope’s highest honor — The Spirit of Life® Award in 2004.

City of Hope Newport Beach, the first phase of City of Hope Orange County’s expansion, opened in early 2020, providing Orange County residents first-time local access to world-renowned physicians backed by the powerful City of Hope network. home decor tips bookcase

Below are some creative bookcase ideas for your home, to store your collection of literary treasures.

Under the Stairs

If you don’t know what to do with the oddly shaped space under the stairs, one great option is to add in your own custom bookcase to fill this area. This creative solution stores your books while also bringing a unique decor item to your space.

Simply Stacked

Instead of spending on shelving, simply stack your books neatly against the wall. Placing the stacked pile next to your bedside can make for a creative bedside table.

Accent Floating Shelves

This minimalist shelving style can fill up blank spaces on your walls. Use multiple small sleek shelves or try a spine shelf for those slim wall spaces.

Open-Back Cube Shelving

These cubby-looking shelves can bring a different dimension to your space. Try an asymmetric style with an open back, fill it with books, plants, and vases to add intrigue and extra decor amongst your literary gems.

Under a Bench

A perfect built-in reading nook would only be complete with built-in book storage. Utilize your window-side reading bench by creating some unique shelving right underneath for convenience and style.

Frame a Door

Frame your door with floor-to-ceiling built-in shelving. This would be perfect for any office space or study to keep your books organized, while also creating a unique accent wall.

“Plant” a Book-tree

Book-tree shelving is perfect for any kid’s room or playroom. Geometric book-tree shelves add a lot of interest and have shelves low enough for the kiddos to reach their books. Throw some comfy pillows and floor cushions around and spend time cozying up with your kiddos and the family’s favorite literary treasures!

When looking to buy home decor, thrifting may not be top of mind but it can be the perfect solution for homeowners looking to get creative with their decor! Thrifting allows you to style on a budget, find classic and vintage pieces, and express your unique style!

If you’re on the hunt for more than just home decor, check out The Riviera by Lennar, a new home community! This delightful lakeside haven of spacious, modern, and well-equipped homes in Homestead, offers single-family homes and two distinctive townhome collections. What better way to show off your thrifty finds than in your brand-new home!

home decor tips

Below are some thrift store tips you should know when looking to shop for your home decor items.

Stay Focused

Walking into a thrift shop can be overwhelming at first. Make a list you can refer back to while you browse to keep in mind what you need to buy. It’ll make your life easier and keep you from being distracted and buy something you might not have a use for.

Location is Key

When looking for finer items, search the thrift stores in the more expensive parts of town. Many people donate locally, so you will likely find higher-end items in those areas. However, be aware of the pricing, as these nicer locations tend to be more expensive.

Know the Demographic

Thrift stores in retirement communities tend to house all of those real antique items donated by their elderly patrons. You can find all sorts of gems in these locations and know that each item has its own unique story.

Get to Know Your Location

Visit your local thrift store to get to know what days they receive items, have sales, and place out the new items. By knowing all of this, you can make a habit of going right when they open to have the first pick on all the items recently donated.

Shop Sales

Even thrift stores have sales, making this affordable option even more appealing! When visiting any shop, ask the employees when they have sales to know when to go back and stock up on items you need.

Time Your Visits

Spring cleaning and New Year’s are the two times of the year that thrift stores receive the most items. It’s important to be patient and keep trying throughout the year though, as you never know when you’ll find a hidden gem!

Home is where the heart is. It should also be where the resort-style pool, walking trails, playground and greenspaces are. Today’s homebuyers want more from a home than just a place for their hearts, they want amenities that will pamper them to their hearts’ content.

That’s why Lennar, already renowned for selecting perfect locations and settings for communities throughout the Metroplex, includes these and other community features.

As much as anything, community amenities create a sense of, well, community. Here are a few Lennar neighborhoods that boast outdoor features for families to play … and socialize.

New homes in Overland Grove feature the BrookstoneClassic, and Vista Collections, just steps away from places to get away from it all. Overland Grove’s amenities include a resort-style pool and clubhouse, a pond with a covered pavilion and fishing pier, a picnic area, playground, and, among the hottest additions to today’s communities, a walking trail.

Sure, dazzling downtown Dallas is just 23 miles from these new homes for sale in Forney, TX, whose family-friendly, old-fashioned flavor, is only a few miles from home, too. Still, nothing compares with coming home from work, staying home and playing at home.

The same is true at Preserve at Honey Creek, tucked in one of Dallas-Fort Worth’s most desirable small cities. The community’s sophisticated BrookstoneClassic and Cottage collections of new homes for sale in McKinney, TX, envelop such amenities as a clubhouse and resort-style swimming pool, a playground and, of course, a walking trail.

Another amenities-rich community, Bridgewater, with the Watermill and Classic collection of new homes for sale in Princeton, TX, boasts a full range of places to relax, play and meet the neighbors. The community’s largesse includes a resort-style pool and clubhouse, a fitness center and volleyball court, a playground, pond and park and a greenbelt and trail.

Here’s the best part: owning and maintaining your own pool can cost upwards of $5,000 a year, HomeAdvisor.com says. and that doesn’t include the enormous installation costs. Likewise,  a backyard playground can set you back just as much as a pool, according to Fixr.com.

Lennar’s HOA fees don’t come anywhere close to those costs. After all, Everything’s Included®. That’s Lennar’s signature package of upgrades other homebuilders consider add-ons, passing those costs on to you. Lennar’s upgrades, such as those in the new homes here, include the likes of granite or quartz countertops in an island kitchen with built-in GE® stainless steel appliances.

At the same time, Lennar pays close attention to play spaces and greenspaces—to communities enriched with amenities that make every community a neighborhood.

To learn more about these amazing features that add so much value, and fun, to life, contact Lennar’s Dallas-Fort Worth Internet New Home Sales Coordinators at (866) 314-4477.
