Many questions come to mind when it’s time to buy art for your home: How do I choose? How much should I spend? How do I educate myself? While galleries seem intimidating, choosing the right piece for your home is much more intuitive and less daunting than one might think. Just follow the tips below:
Choose what you like
While everything matches in most homes when it comes to decor, art is all about expression through color, content, and texture. It doesn’t necessarily need to match. Most experts say to pick art with the heart and choose what appeals to you most. This can lead to a space that reflects you and your personality.
Learn about the artist
To better understand the artwork, learn more about the artist and why they created the piece. This can open your mind to who they are and help the art resonate with you more. Many contemporary galleries feature artists in person and offer profiles of them online.
It’s possible to trade or make a payment plan
It never hurts to ask about a payment plan to an artist or curator. If it’s slightly above your budget, some artists don’t mind negotiating price when you’re truly in love with their piece.
Choose to act fast than to regret later
Many times a piece may resonate with you but you may decide not to invest at the current moment. This leaves open the possibility that it might not be there when you go looking for it later, and you could miss out on the perfect piece for you. You’ll know an art piece is for you when you’re still thinking about it after you leave the gallery.
Take advantage of local art events
These events are a great place to find up-and-coming artists and unique artwork. You could find great deals on local art or invest in an artist who could become a big name someday.
Look at paper works and value framing
You could save a lot when purchasing works on paper rather than canvas. However, these pieces often times are sold unframed. Buying an inexpensive frame is a perfect solution to this. Just make sure the mats touching the artwork are acid-free, in order to keep the artwork intact, and not cause it to deteriorate or discolor.
Commission artwork
Although sometimes a little more costly, commissioning a piece is a great way to get the perfect size needed in a space from an artist you love. Make sure the artist you choose to work with has experience commissioning pieces, as well as speak to former clients of the artists to know their experience. However, when commissioning artwork, don’t get caught up in requesting too much. Give them a loose framework that will allow them to work freely and develop something in their style for you to enjoy.

Before you buy a piece of art, you need a great space for it to hang. Check out Satori in Miami Lakes. This gated community of large estate homes offers a new height of elegant, inspirational living. This community is sure to get your creative juices flowing and offers the perfect place to feature your new artwork. Plus with open floor pans, tall ceilings, stunning water views, and meticulous greenery, it’s also the perfect place to call home!
If you’re still working from home and staying in, you could be looking for a change in scenery. One of the most affordable ways to transform a room is with a new coat of paint. No need to buy expensive new furnishings! It’s simple and relatively inexpensive to pick up a can of paint and give any room a fresh start. Here are some quick tips for any level of DIYer to follow.
When deciding a color, think about what your tastes are or take a look at the latest trends for inspiration. Sometimes we think we want a certain color, but by looking around you might find one that just speaks to you.
It’s important that your paint color doesn’t clash with the furniture in your room, flooring, or light sources, so doing test swatches on the wall is important. Most of the time, the color seen online is not an exact match in person. It can change appearance during different times of the day. Pick up a few extra sample colors in lighter and darker tones for wall testing before making your final decision.
Before opening the paint can, gather all the tools you might need to make sure this project goes smoothly. Some basic items needed are drop cloths, painter’s tape, rollers, and straight and angled brushes. Once you have what you need, you’re ready to prep the space.
Create a stress-free painting experience by prepping and cleaning the room before you even open the paint can. To help the paint adhere better, wipe your walls with warm water and soap to remove any dirt or dust. Remove curtains, frames or anything that could get in the way of your painting job, and lay several canvas drop cloths over your floors and furniture to protect them from dripping paint. Take your painter’s tape and outline your edges so the paint won’t bleed onto the ceiling or trim. Remove as much furniture as you can from the room to give yourself space, crack open a window for ventilation, and start painting.
Now that we’re all prepped and ready to paint, we should begin with a primer base coat; if you’re going for a darker color, we suggest using a tinted primer. When painting, use your angled brush along the edges and corners to get an even coverage and a roller brush for the larger surfaces. If you’ve chosen to paint the ceiling, that would be your next step in the painting process. After the ceiling, paint your walls, and then do baseboards, trim, and molding last.

Every painter needs a good canvas which can mean starting from scratch in a new home. Huntington Place is a gated enclave of new, luxury, single-family homes by Lennar. Located in Vero Beach, this active adult community puts the lifestyle you’ve been looking for, within reach. Did you know that National Good Neighbor Day is September 28th?
In 1978, United States President Jimmy Carter issued Proclamation 4601:
“As our Nation struggles to build friendship among the peoples of this world, we are mindful that the noblest human concern is concern for others. Understanding, love and respect build cohesive families and communities. The same bonds cement our Nation and the nations of the world. For most of us, this sense of community is nurtured and expressed in our neighborhoods where we give each other an opportunity to share and feel part of a larger family…I call upon the people of the United States and interested groups and organizations to observe such day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.” (source)
Whether you’re close friends with your neighbors, or you’ve never even introduced yourself, this is the perfect time to show your neighbors that you care!
Looking for ways to go above and beyond for your neighbors on #GoodNeighborDay? Check out our list of ideas below.
Perhaps you live next door to an elderly couple, a new mom, or a busy family. Offer your services and time to show that you care. Depending on their needs, offer to drive to the store for groceries, or help them with any yard work that needs to be done.
This is a great time to practice your penmanship and the art of letter-writing. Grab some stationary or note cards and write a short note to say hello. Drop off your letters to your neighbors on their doorsteps or mailbox, and brighten their day!
Have a fun social-distanced happy hour or do a pot-luck with the neighborhood in your backyard or community center. You can also host a picnic in a park with spaced out blankets or a game night…the possibilities are endless!
You know what they say – sharing is caring. Have a baking day at home and bring cookies over to your neighbors. If you have a garden, share some of your bounty or bring a bouquet of fresh flowers.
Remember that it’s the thought that counts! Even if you just simply say hello or spark a conversation with your neighbor, celebrate National Good Neighbor Day on September 28th.
Living in Dallas means enjoying a month’s more sunshine than the rest of the U.S. Sunny weather brightens the Metroplex 232 days a year, while the national average is just over 200 days. No better place, then, to head to the pool, the clubhouse or stroll along a trail.
Sure enough, these and other amenities are all just steps away from Lennar’s new homes for sale throughout Dallas-Fort Worth. Everything’s Included® in every new home, with upgrades included as standard features. That goes for the variety of amenities in Lennar’s communities, included for even more comfort, convenience and stress-free, leisure living.
Consider Elements at Viridian, an active-adult community with new homes for sale in Arlington, TX. Exclusively and thoughtfully designed for the 55+ set, the community brims with such amenities as a swimming pool and clubhouse, a walking trail and a pond.
That’s not all. Those features amplify a community idyllically nestled between Mountain Creek and Arlington lakes, surrounded by golf courses, features-rich parks and greenspaces and conveniently situated between downtown Dallas and Fort Worth’s iconic city center.
Another Lennar community with elegant amenities, Sutton Fields Classic lies in a sought-after and serene city about an hour’s drive north of Dallas’ dazzling downtown.
With new homes for sale in Celina, TX, the community boasts resort-style recreational offerings that also happen to be breathtaking. Not one, but two, sparkling swimming pools curve around a pavilion-style clubhouse. Tennis courts stand amid a lush lawn.
Ventana, a Lennar community with new homes for sale in Fort Worth, TX, welcomes homeowners with a beautifully landscaped entrance that leads to a resort-style pool, a 2,400-square-foot pavilion with an outdoor kitchen and walking and bicycling trails.
These rich features, again all just steps away from Lennar’s stylish new homes, complement the community’s perfect surroundings, virtually around the corner from Benbrook Lake and just 15 miles from downtown Fort Worth.
To top off this sampling of Lennar’s communities with enticing amenities, Waterbrook, with new homes for sale in Argyle, TX, captures the serenity of its coveted surroundings.
A watermill and ponds evoke old-fashioned living in the community conveniently situated off I-35W, for outstanding access to Fort Worth’s iconic downtown. Waterbrook also lies just minutes from the popular recreational havens of Eagle Mountain and Grapevine lakes.
In addition to DFW’s enviable weather, the Metroplex itself provides some of the nation’s finest amenities. Bon Appétit named Dallas the “Restaurant City of the Year” in 2019. The NFL’s Dallas Cowboys are among the country’s leading pro-sports teams. World-class entertainment and cultural centers, hundreds of parks and lakes add even more.

Moving to a new home is a very daunting and stressful task – even thinking about it creates stress. During the fall, many people choose to move with their families, out on their own, or downsize for retirement. Whether you’re moving across the street, across town, or across the country, follow these packing tips to ensure your move goes smoothly!
Packing takes a lot of time. Knowing the exact day you need to move is the key to creating a plan/checklist. Allocate enough time before the move to pack and have your end date in mind. This keeps you accountable and on track for a more successful move. In order to keep track of everything, write down what you’re packing and when. Doing this will help you plan out your packing time and be a good reference when unpacking later. Also, make a checklist of must-dos before your move, like contacting your cable and internet provider to cancel/transfer service or having your mail forwarded to your new address starting on a particular date.
Some people get so tied up planning their move that it actually slows down progress. Here’s a tip: just start packing! A good place to start is with items you don’t use every day, such as out-of-season clothes, keepsakes, and decor. After this, move on to the kitchen and pack seldom-used dishes, countertop appliances and kitchen tools, and use small- to medium-sized boxes for heavy items. Don’t forget to write the room name and contents on the outside of every box.
While packing the wardrobe, you’ll notice clothes, shoes, or accessories you haven’t recently worn. Don’t pack them! This is a great time to sift through old clothes and purge your closet. When packing hanging clothes in wardrobe boxes, place shoes at the bottom to save space. You can also use medium-sized boxes to pack folded clothes and group like items together to make unpacking easier. Keep clothing you use often in a suitcase or duffle bag for easy access, like pajamas, so that you can use them right before and after your move.
Hire movers and packers while making sure to keep valuable jewelry, computers, and family heirlooms with you during the move to ensure they’re safe and undamaged. Movers and packers aren’t inexpensive, but if you’ve ever moved yourself – especially as an adult with years of accrued belongings – you might consider the extra help an investment, not an expense. It can be well worth the cost. It’s so easy to become overwhelmed when packing for a move, but if you stay organized, label everything and plan it out, moving can actually be exciting!

Does all this talk of moving have you thinking about…well, you know! Then take a look at the new homes in Lennar’s Crystal Cay community. This charming, private lakeside community of spacious single-family homes and townhomes is located in Miami’s Cutler Bay neighborhood. Enjoy fun amenities like a forthcoming clubhouse, resort-style pool, entertainment gazebo and more, at a community for families who want it all!
