Cinco de Mayo typically entails sombreros, dancing, queso cheese, and margaritas. While life has changed a bit since last Cinco, that doesn’t mean the traditions need to!

Staples in most traditional Mexican cuisines include corn, beans, and peppers. If you’re interested in creating a variety of different Mexican dishes, you can do so with just a few key ingredients like corn, beans, lettuce, peppers, avocado, onion, tomato, cheese, and tortillas.

Many of us who are staying home are starting to get a little stir crazy. We’ve seen every Instagram meme ever created, watched all the best YouTube videos, cleaned, and watched as much Tiger King as our animal-loving hearts can take…. now what?

Fashion Forward Fun
You don’t need to be Vera Wang to create your own fashion line. You don’t need a lot of money or even necessarily know how to sew. If you have the desire to create and love clothes (I mean, who doesn’t?), then make your own! Geneva Vanderzeil, an Australia DIY blogger, has enough “no-sew” style tutorials on her website, Collective Gen, to last you quite a while.
Ditch plastic bags when you make that essential trip to the grocery store, and do so in style with these four different homemade totes. Are you missing going on vacations to tropical locations? This simple shell jewelry tutorial will remind you of summery days. Practicing self-care in isolation with a daily face mask or nightly routine? Throw a homemade scrunchie in your hair to take it to the next level. No sewing machine at home? This no-sew DIY long sleeve wrap top is easy peasy and is so first-day-out-of-iso-fabulous.
If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can order one on Amazon, or check out Facebook Marketplace – just be sure to practice self-distancing when picking up. We recommend electronically transferring funds through PayPal or Apple Pay or Venmo, requesting that the seller leave the item outside for pickup, then disinfect the machine immediately.
If you’d rather get into textile creation, try tye dying. This white sweatshirt makes for the perfect canvas. For the dye, you can utilize a kit like this one, or if food coloring if you have it handy.
