LWith COVID-19 dominating the news, it’s easy to get bogged down in the fear and anxiety brought about by this historic time in history. However, there are glimmers of hope—true stories of positivity—out there helping to bring light to the incredible strength our communities have in times of trouble.
One such story is about a group of sewers called Tree Tops Needlecrafters, who have banded together to provide masks for Atrium Health. The original group consisted of six seamstresses who live in Lennar’s Tree Tops community – designed for active adults in Lancaster, SC – and has now grown to include volunteers across three states.
The Tree Tops Needlecrafters club worked with Atrium Health to create a pattern acceptable for use in hospitals and other organizations in the community. Additionally, the masks have pockets for filter inserts, which can add an extra layer of protection. The initial game plan is to use the masks for patients who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, but they could also be used for medical professionals if necessary.

This is just one example of how homeowners in Lennar’s Tree Tops community are uniting for a common cause. These neighbors unofficially started with just a few women who met regularly in Tree Tops sewing cabin, just one of the many amenities offered by Lennar. As friendships formed, the Needle Crafters have gone on to make quilts for the homeless, hats and blankets for babies at the Levine Children’s Hospital and 200 placemats to support HOPE (Helping Other People Effectively) in Lancaster, S.C. The group has also assisted Days For Girls, a nonprofit that provides DFG kits for menstrual health in Kenya.

“Being military, we moved here from Germany a couple years ago. We didn’t know the area very well so we rented a home off the internet and loved the area, so we were trying to find something over the past two years that we felt was worth the money we were going to pay,” Amber said.
After one of Tom’s sailors suggested they check out The Village of Escaya masterplan, they toured a few models from other homebuilders but then found their dream choice in a new Lennar home.
“And so we came over one day and met Sam with Lennar, she showed us around and then showed us this house and I fell in love with it,” said Amber.

“They initially showed us some of the other homes in the neighborhood, we knew our timeline was pretty tight if we were going to make the move, and when we did see this one we loved it – loved it, loved it,” Tom agreed.
From the cute cottage exterior-style, to the brand-new finishes and the interior floorplan – they knew instantly that this was the perfect home for them and their daughter to settle in. With four bedrooms, they could have a space for their two older children when they come home to visit. And their daughter, who’s finishing her senior year in high school, would have the perfect bedroom downstairs.
“We’ve moved around a ton, it’s always hard on military kids,” Amber said. “She loves it. To her the house is worth it. So I think that’s a lot. That’s huge.”
Amber loves the expansive kitchen. They both love the open-concept layout. Located just a hundred or so yards away from the recreation center, they say their daughter is there every night using the fitness center facilities.

“The huge kitchen you can entertain in, you feel like you can all be a part of it,” said Amber. “That was probably my huge seller, until we went upstairs and saw the master bathroom – the bathtub is huge and the shower you can fit a football team in.”
But the home wasn’t the only thing they loved – but also the easiness they encountered during the homebuying process.
“I will also say that Lennar has been really good – they were really quick about coming over for anything,” said Tom.
“This is the fourth or fifth home we’ve bought and no kidding, Lennar is the easiest,” Amber said.
But that’s not where their family’s journey ended. A few weeks after settling into their home, family came in from out of town to visit. So, they showed them around the neighborhood.

“The whole family came in and while they were coming and going around to all the model homes, they not only fell in love with ours they fell in love with the neighborhood,” Tom said. “My nephew who is also getting stationed here, they were adamant about living in the area.”
And so – their nephew bought another home in the community, located up on the same street of their own.
“We actually have two other friends in the area looking so we do, we try to promote it, we love living here.” Amber added. “I love the size of the community. I’m a big walker, I go out walking and I can get as many steps in as I did in my older one,” said Amber.
“And the value for the money – is awesome,” Tom said.
There are few times of year more satisfying than the annual spring clean. For many people however, it may be a dreaded task and some of the most important projects easily forgotten. Spring cleaning will never be effortless, but it can be painless if you follow these helpful tips and tricks:
1. Deck Deep Clean

Tons of fall leaves, packed in dirt and all-around winter grime can leave your deck feeling dull. A once-a-year scrub down will extend the life of your deck and make your summer entertaining space sparkle. First, sweep up dry debris with a large broom. Then, depending on the material of your deck, select a cleaner and dilute according to directions. Use a stiff push broom that’s small enough to dip into a bucket and go to town! Hose down to rinse suds away and let it dry. Enjoy your gleaming outdoor oasis!
2. Curtain Care

Even if your curtains don’t look dirty, they are notorious for gathering dust, pet dander and even mold spores. That accumulation can drastically affect your indoor air quality, as every time a person brushes against them, these nasty debris get disturbed and released into the air. The kind of cleaning your curtains need depends on the type of fabric, but for curtains that are not dry clean only, use the following directions: First, remove all hardware and shake outdoors if possible. Wash two panels at a time using the cold water setting on your washing machine and dry on a low heat setting or hang to dry if the material is delicate.
3. Cabinet Degreasing

Kitchen cabinets get dirty, fast. You spatter grease on them, use dirty hands to open drawers, and all-in-all just pack on the grime. You can fight this mess on daily basis with light cleaning and care, but it’s a good idea to annually give your cabinets a good once over. Vinegar is the go-to natural cleaner when it comes to cabinets. Mix a 50/50 solution of vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle. Mist on cabinets, let sit for a few minutes, and wipe clean with a soft cloth. Heavy grease and grime may need a bit more effort, but never use any abrasive materials as they can damage the finish or paint.
4. Hardwood Floors Overhaul

Preventative maintenance is the key when it comes to prolonging the life of your hardwood floors, but dirt, oil and grime build up over time and can’t be completely removed by weekly dust mopping. For an annual deep cleaning, use a wood-cleaning product diluted according to the label instructions. Saturate a sponge or rag mop in water and wring it dry. Damp-mop the floor, but be careful to prevent standing water by wiping up excess liquid. If possible, turn on a ceiling fan to speed up the drying process.
A deep clean once a year will go a long way into preserving the quality of your home. Plus, there’s no better feeling than relaxing after a hard day’s work in a freshly cleaned space!

As many of us are suddenly adjusting to working from home, as well as spending the majority of time indoors, it inevitably will come with unexpected challenges. So in order to maintain productivity as well as mental clarity, there are some tools you can implement for a structured work-life balance.

Keep to your routine.
It might seem silly, but it’s been shown that continuing to wake up every day at the same time you normally would with your commute can help you maintain a productive structure. Go through your regular morning routine – whether that consists of exercise, showering or taking the dog out – then get dressed like you would for the work day outside your home.

Designate your work space.
Make sure you have an actual work space that’s set-up and ready to go, as tempting as it might be to just work in your pajamas from the couch. Creating and working in an environment that reflects your usual workspace will already have you more focused and committed to taking on the day’s work. Have fun with it – add some flair to make it really feel like your own. Consider setting up near a window so you still have a peek into the outside world.

Stick to your normal eating schedule.
When the line between work and home life becomes blurred, even the simplest structures hold great value. Keeping with your lunch and snack times will help you manage your time effectively to make for an easier transition. Since you have extra time at home – why not dive into meal prepping? If you were already a meal prepper, keep up with the same routine!

Get outside for at least 20 minutes a day.
You are probably sick of hearing this by now, but it’s true that even just going for a walk outside will help you disconnect from the indoor environment and reset your mental state. Consider going for a walk before and after each work day. It’s a good way to clear the mind and you can schedule it in like you would your typical “commute.”

Maintain your normal work schedule.
When we’re working from home, it’s easier to stay connected during the off hours because we never feel that physical break and departure from the day’s job. But committing to your normal schedule and getting your work done within those hours allows you to be more productive and log off at the end of the day. For a happier and healthier balance between your two colliding worlds.
Working adults are itching to get back to the office, the kids can’t wait to see their friends at school, and stay-at-home parents are over the role of playing teacher. While most of us are getting a little stir crazy staying at home, one family member loves every minute of this quarantine lifestyle.
You know, the hairy little guy always waiting at the window for you to get home, the one jumping around at the front door like she hasn’t seen you in years when you stepped outside for two minutes, the loyal companion always ready to take a nice long walk – your pet!
Our pets have served as a source of comfort during these trying times. They keep us company, force us to step outside and breathe in some fresh air, and are there to cuddle with us on the sofa when we’re watching Netflix for the 12th hour on a Sunday.

Even sheltered animals are feeling the love! According to an article on Bloomberg.com, there’s a shortage of pets available to foster in New York City, and shelters in LA have seen a 70% increase in animals going into foster care.
National Pet Day is on Saturday, April 11th, and it’s the perfect time to thank our pets for providing us with so much love and comfort. Whether you’re fostering a four-legged friend, or you’re celebrating a lifelong family-member – here are a few things you can do for your fur babies at home on National Pet Day:
Staying home doesn’t mean you can’t let your dog out in your private outdoor space. If you live in a Lennar Atlanta community like East Highlands, Parkside Meadows, Arbors II at Lakeview, Timberbrook, and many others, you have a beautiful big yard with plenty of space to let your dog out or take them for a walk. Just be sure to always maintain the 6-foot distance rule between neighbors.
When you think of a “happy dog,” you likely see the image of a dog with its head out the window of a car, ears flapping in the wind, howling with joy. With traffic so sparse these days, it’s the perfect time to take your four-legged companion on a mini road trip. Outside your community gates are miles of open, scenic road, and nature to be explored. Just 50 miles north of Atlanta and a short drive from the Mountain Crest community is the beautiful Lake Lanier, and only 78 miles north of Atlanta is the Chattahoochee National Forest. Click here for more local scenic routes to enjoy with your pet.
While there isn’t any evidence that pets can get or spread the COVID-19 virus, owners and groomers certainly can. For this reason, we do not recommend going into a pet salon. Instead, consider a mobile grooming service such as Leidy’s Happy Tails. Leidy is a certified groomer with 13 years of experience in Atlanta and has 50 five star reviews on Thumbtack. Schedule a time for Leidy to swing by your home in her mobile grooming van on the website and send your four-legged friend out for pick-up when she arrives. Payment can be made via Paypal, Square cash app, Venmo, or Zelle. Your pet will come home looking great and feeling fresh in no time.

We all love our subscription services – meal kits, cosmetic samples, and monthly shave clubs. One can only imagine your pet would enjoy a subscription box filled with treats and toys too! Subscription boxes for pets like BarkBox and Caty Lady Box are great for sampling new treats and buying your pet toys each month. A lot of these boxes have a monthly theme and support independent artists and small businesses, so you end up trying products you may not have otherwise heard of.
We’re all thrilled that so many dogs and cats are getting adopted and fostered and are receiving the love and care they deserve. There is however some fear that pets will be abandoned due to financial difficulty. ASPCA is working quickly to find permanent and temporary homes for the pets in their care to prepare for this. Even still – they could use our help with charitable donations. If you’d like to donate to ASPCA, please visit their website.
Show your pets how much their unconditional love and support means to you by giving them the National Pet Day they deserve even if that means spending some extra quality time with them cuddling on the couch.
