Yep. Not a fun task but it must be done. Check for any loose or leaky gutters since improper drainage can cause leakage into your basement or crawl space. Also, look at the bottom of your gutters for any loose granules which could signal your roof may need some repairs. If your downspouts need cleaning, you can easily do this with a hose and a helper to turn on the water.
While you are already on the ladder doing the gutters, this is the perfect time to take a good look at the roof. Look for curled or missing shingles, roof penetrations, and crack caulk around pipe collars. You can prevent costly roof repairs by catching problem areas early.
Pressure washing is an easy way to get your home looking spick-and-span for spring. And in the process, you can look for any chipped paint or exposed wood. Not only will fresh paint keep your home looking nice but also any exposed wood can quickly rot in the spring rains. Scrape off any chipped or peeling paint and then paint over the exposed areas.
Get an early start before the trees begin to sprout new leaves and trim back any overgrown bushes or branches. The rule of thumb is to keep branches 5 to 7 inches away from your home. Even millennials that have not entered the real estate market yet will be prioritizing their furry friends when making their home buying decisions. 42% of those who were surveyed stated that their dog is a key factor in the home choice.

I’ve always thought this would be a great project and I still have not done it! Adding some beautiful wooden or composite planter boxes beneath the windows provides a place for a few potted flowers that look great from inside and out! It’s an easy DIY project for any skill level.
No single element of your home can add a fresh splash of color as effectively as the front door! Go with a bright color like red, which is world renowned as a color of welcome and respite. Some believe a red door draws chi energy into the home for the benefit of all who dwell within. But hey, if you’re good on your chi, I think a nice pale blue looks good too. The point is a colorful door is a good move. You’ll be happy!
Not all home improvement projects require a saw. Sometimes scissors are more in order. Spring is a great time to brighten up your window treatments, cushion covers and accents. It’s an easy way to make a big difference without spending a bunch of time or money.
April flowers bring May showers … wait … maybe I should have put the rain first. In any case, spring and summer will invariably bring a bit of precipitation and the house needs to be ready.
