A top executive of Lennar Corp. recently joined with officials from Weehawken, N.J., to celebrate the completion of the home builder’s newest condominium complex, a luxury building across the Hudson River from New York City. The 74-unit building – which will feature hotel-like amenities, including concierge services, a lobby lounge with a fireplace, gyms and yoga rooms, gathering areas and catering kitchen – is the first of a five-building, 660-unit master-planned community in Weehawken called the Avenue Collection. Condos at the first building range in price from $1.1 million to $2 million. Construction of a second tower with 103 luxury condo units is under way. The nation’s second-largest home builder by revenue may be better known for $300,000 single-family homes. But in 2011, the company branched out into the rental market and has since increased its investments. The Miami-based company’s multifamily division has spent about $1 billion to develop 18 apartment communities nationwide, 13 of which are still under construction. What’s more, according to a July report by Zacks Investment Research, Lennar is planning to spend $3 billion to build 12,000 apartments over the next four years. [Read this article]
Looking to sell your place? When dealing with prospective buyers, think beyond the obvious – what you take for granted about your home may seal the deal for them. USA Today highlighted 7 features you shouldn’t skip when marketing your property. For example, many first-time homebuyers will be comparing your house to smaller rental properties that they’ve lived in. Even what you consider standard may appear luxurious to your buyers. If you have built-in storage, a separate kitchen pantry, or extra closets, be sure to highlight these features. Also, your built-in bookshelves and garage storage system are attractive to buyers with clutter-free dreams. And just because you’re familiar with your neighborhood doesn’t mean everybody is. A buyer may not know to research your zip code, and therefore may not know about the local perks, like nearby dining and shopping centers, or convenience factors, like proximity to multiple highways or major employers. Do you fold your T-shirts like you see them in a department store? Are they all neatly folded and stacked on top of each other? Even in a department store you might make a mess of the stack trying to find the right size and this is a stack of shirts that are all the same. For some reason a lot of us use this same method at home when all of our t-shirts are different! That can make finding a shirt you are looking for quite a messy task. You have to dig through the drawer to find the shirt and if you have to pull it from the bottom everything else gets messed up. Well, we saw a great solution for this and decided we needed to share this knowledge! Simply fold those shirts in half again and stack them vertically next to each other…you will be able to see every shirt in your drawer!

When we pinned this two-story living space from Lennar Houston, we were overwhelmed by the positive responses! Comments like “Perfect,” “Lovely, modern, clean lines,” and “luv luv this floorplan” affirmed what we already knew – this room is simply stunning!
Simple shades of gray (SW Mindful Gray and SW Dovetail) and pops of blue are used to compliment the room’s bright and airy concept, while the dark wood flooring adds a cozy feeling to the larger space. Using SW Indigo Batik with SW Pure White trim in the fireplace niche adds a unique touch to the room and rounds out its color palette.

Once upon a time, Grandma could expect to move into the spare bedroom and help out with the kids. After World War II, that model changed as young people moved closer to the city and embraced the new American dream – a house in the suburbs that had no room for aging parents. Now multigenerational living is making a comeback. According to a Pew Research Center report, U.S. Census data recorded 51.4 million Americans, or 16.7 percent of the population, living in mutigenerational households in 2009, up 10.5 percent from just two years earlier. Homebuilders are finding that demand for housing that accommodates several generations under one roof is still on the rise, not only among immigrant groups for whom multigenerational living is culturally expected, but across all demographics and regions. Lennar rolled out its line of The Home Within a Home at the beginning of 2012, says Jeff Roos, Western regional president. The Home Within a Home doesn’t add significantly to the total square footage, Roos says. “It’s designed with a separate apartment within the confines of a family home. It provides a separate living space that allows more than one generation to live independently, but together. I think it’s the greatest advance since indoor plumbing. It’s a real game changer.” [Read this article]
When it came time for Tom Moser and his wife to consider having his 83-year-old father move in with them, a house with a special multigenerational floor plan solved their problems – and may have saved his dad’s life. For the same $335,000 he might have paid for a traditional home in the Tucson suburbs, Moser, 61, was able to pick a The Home Within a Home model from Lennar Corp, one of the biggest U.S. homebuilders. It had an 800-square-foot house-within-a-house for his dad that had a separate entrance and its own patio, plus a bedroom, sitting area, and bathroom. More than 50 million Americans already live in multigenerational situations, according to Pew Research, and the number is expected to grow as baby boomers age. For an increasing number of families, clearing out an extra room for Grandma (or for “boomerang” kids and grandchildren) isn’t good enough. Homebuilders are responding with new models that have separate wings, attached apartments, dual master suites or finished basements. [Read this article]

This week’s featured pin comes from Indian Land, NC!
