Tips from our interior design team on how to integrate the Boho look at home
Unlike many new homebuilders, Lennar is fortunate to have a team of talented in-house interior designers who plan and execute the professional decorating of model homes across the West and Northwest regions. Bohemian décor has and continues to be a huge trend, but artfully pulling the look off in a way that is sophisticated is easier said than done.
We spoke with our designers Lesley and Brianna to get their insight and dig into their thought process behind some of their recent Boho-inspired model homes. Here’s the scoop on how to do this on your own!
Farmhouse Boho
Designer Lesley believes that creating a Boho look is heavily reliant upon “texture and a mixture of furniture that feels like it’s been bought over time. Nothing too matchy-matchy.”
“We decided not to use pops of color here, something you typically see in a Bohemian style. I pulled some Traditional pieces with Industrial and Farmhouse-style furniture and décor, to give it that Farmhouse-meets-Boho feel.”
Urban Boho
“Seven Wells Estates was all about creating an Urban Boho look and feel. The streamlined and more modern furniture paired with the texture and rustic pieces give it a nice blend. The result is Contemporary-yet-Bohemian,” Lesley said.
Texture, Texture, Texture
“For this one, I really focused on texture mixed with pops of black. Black, mixed with creams and ivory, can be very warm and inviting. When everything’s too light it can feel sterile. It’s important to add depth,” said Lesley. “The layering of rugs, weathered wood, rubbed black metals and textured materials give this home a warm ambiance.”
Naturally Eclectic
Designer Brianna also advised that incorporating textures is crucial for getting the Boho look—but don’t be afraid to add in bold patterns for some fun and impact.
“Bring in a variety of textures. Incorporate natural elements, woven textiles and eclectic patterns to design a look that feels modern yet relaxed, the way a Boho-inspired space needs,” Schlaht said. “The idea is to create a room that embraces a collected aesthetic. So don’t shy away from introducing bold prints or layering area rugs to tie the space together.”
