We all want to see our loved ones’ faces light up this holiday season, but shopping for gifts can be stressful. What to buy, what to spend, when and where to get the perfect deal…it can all feel like too much. But holiday shopping doesn’t have to be stressful! And there’s more to smart holiday shopping than Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

1. Make a Shopping Plan

Have you ever grocery shopped without a list and gone home with some really unexpected purchases? Holiday shopping is no different. Start with a list of people to shop for and list out realistic gift ideas. If you really don’t know what to get, set a spending limit for each person. This will help stop you from going over budget.

2. Remember That Saving is Still Spending

No matter how big the discount, you’re still spending money. Stick to your list and avoid getting sucked in by deals that seem too good to pass up.

3. Research Major Purchases First

If your list includes big ticket items like computers, tablets, TVs, and the like, spend a little time researching the best brands and deals out there. Read reviews, compare models and list out your top 3 choices for each item. This will help you ensure that you’re buying what you really want and getting it for the best price.

4. Shop Smarter Online

Pretty much everyone does at least some shopping on a computer or mobile device these days. Companies like Amazon and Target make it easier than ever to buy, wrap and ship just about anything. There are also helpful online shopping tools like Honey or Rakuten – browser extensions that tracks pricing on popular items across the internet.

5. Choose Quality Over Quantity

This might be the most important holiday shopping hack of all. Holiday giving isn’t about how much you spend or how many gifts there are to be opened. That’s why it’s typically better to buy one nice, thoughtful gift that will last for years instead of 10 cheap items that will wear out in a few months. This year, make every dollar you spend more meaningful by choosing quality over quantity.
