What is ENERGY STAR®?

ENERGY STAR®² is a voluntary program founded by the US Environmental Protection Agency that helps both businesses and individuals save money and protect our climate through a focus on energy efficiency. ENERGY STAR® certified homes are at least ten percent more energy efficient than other homes built to code and achieve a twenty percent improvement on average, while providing homeowners with better quality, performance, and comfort.

What are the financial benefits of ENERGY STAR®?

In 2017, the ENERGY STAR® certified new homes program helped homeowners save three billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, avoiding $400 million in energy costs.³ These homes will save you hundreds of dollars a year through the power of incredibly energy-efficient appliances.

For example, ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerators use up to 40 percent less energy than conventional fridges sold in 2001. An energy-efficient dishwasher saves you $25 a year in electricity cost alone, despite the fact that they run only a fraction of the amount of time that a refrigerator does. Moving out of the kitchen and into the laundry room, washers and dryers that are ENERGY STAR® certified can use up to fifty percent less energy, and when combined with one another, can save you almost three hundred dollars a year.
