Fall home maintenance in Tampa

Fall Home Maintenance Checklist

With hurricane season coming to an end, now is the perfect time to do an inspection of your home to see if any maintenance is needed before Winter. To get started, please use this list of tips to begin your home maintenance this Fall.

Clean Gutters

It’s important to check your home’s gutters for plant debris that may have built up over the summer, as clogged gutters can cause water damage and roof leaks, along with other serious damage if left unattended. Gutters are very easy to clean yourself, but many companies also offer this service.

Check Sealing

While winter weather is not much of a concern for Florida homeowners, it’s still important to make sure your doors and windows are sealed tight. Drafty doors and windows can lead to poor energy efficiency and also cause the potential for wind and rain to get in. An easy way to seal them up is to grab caulk from your local store and seal up any problem areas.

Clean Yard

Summer in Florida can mean the potential for storm damage, so it’s a good time to check your yard to see if there are any broken tree limbs or problem areas. It is good practice to clear out any overgrown plants so that you can enjoy your beautiful outdoor living space throughout the Winter, without the hassle of constant maintenance.

Check Systems

While the need for heating is incredibly rare, it is still important to make sure you’re A/C and heating systems are working properly, especially if they’ve been used sparingly. Take this opportunity to change out the filters, check smoke alarms, and replace batteries to make sure your home is in proper working order. If you have a fireplace, it is a good idea to fully inspect it by checking the flue before lighting any fires for the season. Also make sure you have a fire extinguisher in proper working order just in case of emergencies.

Now that your home is all ready for the Fall/Winter season, it’s time to get outside and enjoy the wonderful Florida weather! With your home safe and sound, and backyard looking beautiful, you can spend more time relaxing on the patio or dining in your outdoor living space.
