Battling the heat in the summer months can really drive your energy costs up. With a few smart choices, you can lower your energy bills through the warmest months and year-round, too.

Air Condition Intelligently

Keeping your AC running smoothly is a great place to start realizing energy savings. Change your filters frequently from May through October. Every 3 weeks is a good rule of thumb. Set the AC to adapt to your schedule. With a WiFi-enabled thermostat, you can automate these planned temperature changes and even set it up to conserve energy when you’re not home.

Increase Air Flow

Use ceiling fans to circulate the cool air. Make sure overhead fan blades rotate in a counter-clockwise direction (as you look up at the fan.) Set at a high speed to move air straight down for the best effect.

Keep the Heat Out

In addition to the low-E windows used on a Lennar home, you can keep blinds closed during the day to keep sunlight from heating your home. This method helps to keep your home cool by reflecting away exterior radiant energy.

Take Advantage of the Grill

Using the kitchen stove will heat your home, but a grill keeps cooking heat outside. With less indoor cooking, the interior of your home will stay cooler. Best of all? You can enjoy your outdoor space while trying out some great grill recipes.

Conserve Energy

Make a habit of turning off lights and electronics when you leave a room. Run your washer, dryer, and dishwasher only when they are fully loaded and wash with cold water. Smart use of appliances can really make a difference.
