Abby Griffin is one of our talented Regional Interior Designers at Lennar who designs and styles model homes across our West Coast communities. We asked Abby to share her insights on designing the Arcadia model home at Salmon Creek Ridge in Vancouver.
Did the location of this model home influence your design choices?
“Absolutely! The Arcadia model home reflects its location in Vancouver as well as the surrounding landscape highlighting outdoor recreation.”
How would you describe the style and color scheme of this model home?
“I would describe the style of this model home as modern with a touch of art deco. It leans into a bolder take on modern design, featuring vibrant colors like rust and slate blue. There’s also geometric and abstract wall details throughout that add a distinctive art deco influence that ties the look together.”
Which detail or design feature in this model home is your personal favorite?
“It’s difficult to pick just one, but I’d say the color palette stands out the most. The bold, energetic tones bring character and vibrancy to the space. I truly believe the colors in a home influence how you feel and this one makes me feel excited and inspired.”
The Kitchen
The kitchen is a dream come true for cooking, entertaining, or just hanging out with you family. A large kitchen island is the focal point of the space, complementing the stainless steel appliances and sophisticated cabinetry.

“The generous scale of this kitchen was something I truly wanted to highlight, particularly the expansive island that comfortably accommodates four counter stools. While most islands typically seat two or three, the ability to fit four showcases the impressive size and functionality of the space.”
The Dining Area
The dining area is ideally located right off the kitchen and next to the Great Room. Host dinner parties or game day get-togethers effortlessly with this open-concept space.

“Upon entering the front door, your view extends seamlessly through the home to the dining area. Abundant natural light enhances this space, highlighting the dining room as a stunning focal point at the heart of the home.
The Great Room
Entertain with ease in this spacious Great Room, located right off the open-concept kitchen and dining space.

“As spacious as the kitchen is, the great room is truly impressive with its expansive layout. Designing the tile feature wall in the media wall was an especially enjoyable part of the process. Incorporating floating shelves allowed us to showcase the tile’s texture and detail, rather than obscuring it with traditional artwork—adding both function and visual interest.”
The Owner’s Suite
The Owner’s Suite is located on the second floor offering a serene getaway complete with an en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet.

“In model homes, creating moments of visual interest are essential—these memorable design elements leave a lasting impression on potential home buyers. The finish carpentry on this wall detail was executed beautifully, and the result was truly impactful.”
The Den
Located next to the foyer, this den makes the perfect place to set up a home office or play room depending on your needs.

“I just love the color in this room. The rich slate blue shiplap wall provides a sophisticated backdrop, while the rust-colored accent chairs introduce a vibrant contrast that energizes the space.”
Three Secondary Bedrooms
This home features four bedrooms in total, including three secondary bedrooms. This provides plenty of space for all your family members, friends and guests to spread out comfortably.
“Designing secondary bedrooms is one of the most enjoyable aspects of a home for me. These spaces offer an opportunity to be more playful with design, allowing for added personality and character that bring a unique charm to the overall home aesthetic.”
The Loft
This shared living space located on the second floor is a great place to create a children’s play area or a more casual living room.

“Who doesn’t love a loft? It’s the perfect spot for kids to hang out and watch their favorite shows, read, or play games. I had a lot of fun designing this space to feel like a cozy and inviting hangout. Anytime I get to use a colored sectional in a model home, I get excited—it adds so much personality and gives the space a fun, unexpected twist.”
What was the best part of working on this model home and seeing the space come to life?
“Not every model home includes detailed wall treatments, so it was especially exciting to design a space where elements like painted and tiled features were thoughtfully curated for each room. One of the most rewarding parts of this project was seeing those wall treatments come to life after months of planning and visualizing them digitally.”

This model home, Arcadia, is part of the Salmon Creek Ridge community in Vancouver, WA.

More about Designer Abby Griffin

How did you get your start in interior design?
“I graduated in 2022 and shortly after started working for Lennar as a Regional Design Assistant. I’ve worked my way up over the past few years into my current position as Regional Interior Designer and I love getting to design and bring inspiration to homebuyers every day”
Why do you love interior design?
“I love bringing life to a home and I find excitement in discovering the potential of an empty room. Whether that is through the furniture selections, lighting, paint colors, textiles, or even changing the floorplan. Although, it is truly a combination of all these aspects that make your home reach its full potential and reflect your style.
Where do you look for inspiration?
“I look for inspiration in nature. I find that my eye is drawn to natural materials and that people feel more at ease when they see natural elements in a home.”
Current favorite design trend?
“I’ve been loving pattern mixing – it’s almost like a puzzle to me. Blending together a few patterns has the potential to feel chaotic, yet when the patterns are curated and complementary they give a cohesive and fun feeling. “
