Brittani Cummings is a talented Regional Senior Interior Designer at Lennar who designs and styles model homes across our West Coast communities. We recently interviewed her to gain insight on a model home she completed for our Residence 2B model home at Ridgeview at Metro Heights, a luxury gated master-planned community of new homes that are now selling in Montebello, California.
Did the location of this model home influence your design choices?
“This community is in an area that’s elevated up on a hill, which is perfectly poised for many beautiful sunsets. The terracotta earth tones, paired with the sage green reflects the environment around the neighborhood.”
How would you describe the style of this model home, as well as the color schemes?
“This home reflects elements of nature. The cool tones of the soft sage greens and subtle terracotta create an environment that is welcoming and calm. These hues play into the design concept that translates into comfortable CA living.”
What’s your favorite aspect or feature of this model home?
“The owner’s suite is my favorite room. The inviting layers of bedding, paired with the carefully selected natural landscape artwork, work beautifully with the wall trim details. Every element feels perfectly balanced and harmonious.“
The Kitchen
“Picking a muted colored backsplash, like the one shown here in sage green, was purposefully selected to show subtle contrast against the white cabinet color.”
The Dining Area
“To complement the subtle muted sage green tones found in the kitchen backsplash, I decided to dress each window with coordinating drapery panels in that hue to balance out the design elements.”
The Great Room
“Adding in layers of the two-color combos in sage green and terracotta with the pillows and accessories is key to creating a cohesive environment in an open floor plan concept.”
The Owner’s Suite
“My favorite room! I love the balance of all the layers, textures, metal finishes, paint colors and bedding selections.”
The Outdoor Room
“This space is the perfect little moment for dining al fresco!”
Secondary Bedrooms
“I love all of the secondary bedroom, but this sweet little girl’s nature room is my favorite. The focal point is the Morris and Co. wallpaper, originally design by William Morris in 1876. Throughout the years they’ve updated the colorways of the design, but the pattern has not changed since its inception. This is a space where we see the Arts and Crafts movement come back to life in a modern, current way.”
The Bonus Room
“The third story bonus recreation room and outdoor space is the perfect spot for kids to let loose. Between the causal lounge seating for watching TV, the pool table, and the amazing views from the outdoor deck, you won’t be bored while hanging in this space.”
The Loft
“This space has “open-to-below ceilings” that soar to about 20 feet. It also has many transition thresholds and pass through walkways which allowed us to create a functional homework zone, with a fun small craft table to ground this space. It blends in perfectly with the rest of the “Comfortable CA Living” design concept.”
What was the best part of working on this model home and seeing the space come to life?
“The best part is always the last day of installation when most of the crew has left and it’s just you in the room with the golden hour lighting shining through the windows– and you capture in photos the essence of all your hard work. It’s a moment to reflect on the goodness of what you dedicated the last 4-5 months to designing.“

This model home, Residence 2B, is part of the Ridgeview Collection at Metro Heights master-planned community in Montebello.

More about Designer Brittani Cummings

How did you get your start in interior design?
In high school, I initially aspired to become an art teacher but was directed towards a career in interior design. This shift was a natural fit, because I had a passion for rearranging my bedroom as a child and I enjoyed visiting model homes during the rapid development of southern Orange County from the early 90s to the late 2000s. I went to a trade school in my college years specifically for interior design and received my Bachelor’s degree. I hit the ground running working in multiple firms specializing in architecture, hospitality and other various commercial spaces for about 4 years but ultimately landed working in the model home building industry for the last 12 years of my career.
How long have you been with Lennar?
As I approach my eighth-year anniversary this summer of 2026, it’s amazing to reflect on the significant growth we’ve experienced within our Merchandising department, which started with about 15 designers and team members. It’s awesome to be a part of a company with a growth mindset, which is a key value to the Lennar culture.
Why do you love interior design?
I love the idea of curating moments and memories. My favorite part of the design process is the preliminary phase — gathering layers of textiles, color tones, and metal finishes to form a cohesive storyboard for the buyer. Each detail becomes part of a sensory experience, allowing potential homeowners to emotionally connect with the space and envision their own families building memories there.
Where do you look for inspiration?
God’s creation. Going outside into nature is a great way to find inspiration. The natural textures of grass, leaves, tree bark, sand, water, and sky, as well as the natural color palettes, instantly inspire.
What design trends are you loving right now?
I believe we’re seeing a “Renaissance” moment in design, where people are drawn to spaces that are reminiscent of earlier times. This trend celebrates warmth, complexity and a lived-in, timeless elegance.
Fun fact about yourself?
My husband and I are currently in the process of building a custom home on an acre of land in southern Orange County. The process of designing a custom home is incredibly valuable and beneficial to what I do at Lennar. The experience I have gained translates to my work every day as I deal with various trades, architects, the permit process and material selections.
