How to Turn Your Bedroom into a Hotel-like Retreat

Spending more time at home has most of us craving a break from the stresses of everyday life. While vacations might be on the back-burner for now, there’s no reason you can’t achieve that luxury hotel feel at home! Read our tips below to help you create a hotel-like retreat in your own bedroom.

Declutter

This is the first step in creating a luxurious bedroom oasis, and important to achieving that hotel-like retreat. Clear your room of any children’s toys, extra books or décor items that don’t belong, and always put your clothing in the closet or laundry room. Investing in furniture pieces that double as storage is an easy way to keep your space clean and organized – like bedside chests or a storage bench at the foot of the bed.

Bedding

Perhaps the best part of taking a vacation and staying in a hotel, is experiencing a luxurious night’s sleep. Bedding plays such an important role in this, so choose a high-quality natural fabric, like linen or cotton percale, that is soft and breathable. Take it one step further by utilizing a linen spray with lavender or eucalyptus for a soothing aromatic experience.

If you don’t already, try to start every day by making your bed. This is such a good habit to have because it not only creates a put-together bedroom, but also sets the tone for your entire day!

Soft lighting

Nothing can ruin the mood more than harsh lighting. While most bedrooms have overhead lighting, it’s important to bring in additional sources of light that create a welcoming atmosphere. Consider mounting matching wall sconces on either side of the bed or placing smaller lamps on your bedside tables. If you have a sitting area in your owner’s suite, a stylish floor lamp completes the area and provides additional lighting.

Calming color palette

Color plays such a huge role in creating atmosphere, so it should come as no surprise that it’s important when designing a bedroom retreat. Decorate with a calming neutral palette, such as beige, warm white, soft blue or pale grey. Don’t forget that the color doesn’t just apply to your paint choice or linens. Choose a soft and textured rug that compliments your palette and add in accent pieces that complete your bedroom oasis.

Finishing touches

It’s all in the details. Pamper yourself and leave fresh florals in the room, light a high-quality candle, place a special glass for water on your bedside table, and select a plush pair of slippers to leave beside your bed. Attention to detail makes all the difference and helps elevate your space to a spa-like retreat.
