Six Steps to Spring Clean Your Home

Spring has officially arrived, which means it’s time to tackle your to-do list and get organized around the house. Not sure where to start? Follow our six simple steps below to get your home ready for spring.

1. Make a list

Start your spring cleaning by making a list of everything that you would like to accomplish. This will help you stay on task and create a less overwhelming environment for yourself—plus, who doesn’t love the feeling of crossing things off your list when you’re done? Organize your list by room and include general cleaning tasks, like dusting the shelves and baseboards, as well as larger projects, such as organizing your closet.

2. Declutter

Sometimes getting rid of items can feel difficult, whether you’re attached to pieces for sentimental reasons or thinking you might need that one random thing someday. Decluttering will give you more space and freedom to enjoy your home without feeling disorderly. Go through your clothes and consider donating anything that you haven’t worn in over a year. Take time to overhaul your pantry as well—pull everything off the shelves and throw away anything expired so you can start fresh.

3. Organize

Now that you’ve decluttered your home, it’s time to organize! Start on one room at a time so you don’t feel overwhelmed and create designated areas for your items. Utilize an entryway or console table by your front door to keep your keys, purse and other important items that you typically grab while running out the door. Adding stylish yet practical baskets on shelves and next to tables for extra storage is an easy win.

4. Access the hard-to-reach spaces

Oftentimes those hard-to-reach places in our homes get neglected when it comes to cleaning. Carefully dust your ceiling fans, blinds, light fixtures and anywhere else that might collect dust. Move your furniture to vacuum underneath sofas and other pieces that collect dirt and lost objects, and don’t forget about your baseboards.

5. Deep clean

Give your home a thorough deep clean and start with one room at a time to move through your house. Scrub the shower, bathtub, toilet and sinks in your bathrooms and in your kitchen. Remember to focus on frequently used appliances, like the oven, microwave and washing machine.

6. Add spring décor

Freshen up your space with natural light and bright décor throughout your home. Add in fun pops of color with new accent pillows, candles, blankets and decorative objects.  Fresh flowers are an effective way to liven up your dining and living areas and bring a sense of spring into your home.
