5 spring activities in Maryland

When it’s not raining, Maryland has beautiful spring weather. Now is a great time to do some outdoor activities before the hot months of summer.

1. Visit the Zoo

Depending on where you are in the Maryland area, you have two great zoos to visit. If you go to The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, be sure to see the award winning Penguin Coast exhibit as well as some of its newest members- the baby giraffe named Willow who was born in February, the two recently adopted grizzly bear cubs, Nova and Nita, and Jaharo, the four year old Southern white rhino.

The other zoo is Smithsonian’s National Zoological Park, also known as the National Zoo. Known for its famous giant pandas and other large animal exhibits, including elephants, big cats, and primates, this zoo has something for everyone to see.

2.Visit Maryland’s Gardens

Enjoy a spring day strolling through some of Maryland’s beautiful public gardens. Visit Sherwood Gardens in Baltimore to see 80,000 tulips and other types of flowers. Also visit the Butterfly Exhibit in Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, MD.

3. Soloman’s Maritime Festival

Located in Solomans, Maryland, this free event includes tastings of traditional Maryland foods and will teach newcomers how to pick crabs and shuck oysters. Also stop by the Antique Boat and Marine Engine Show to see exhibits of antique and classic boats, and vintage marine outboard and inboard engines. With music and free 30-minute cruises on the Wm. B. Tennison and toy boat building for the kids, this will be an event to remember.

4. Go to an Orioles game in the famous Camden Yards

Watch a game of baseball in Baltimore at the award-winning Camden Yards. Voted for the third year in a row for best stadium experience, the whole family is sure to have a good time.

5. Visit the Inner Harbor

Some of the most famous attractions in Baltimore can be found right in the Inner Harbor. Walk around the water and enjoy some shopping and food at one of the many restaurants in the area. Be sure to take a water taxi to see some beautiful sites and get a unique perspective of the city.
