It isn’t difficult to have a great time in the Queen City – if you have the money to do it! Everyone is looking for a little fun, and here’s exactly how you can do that without breaking the bank.
1. River Jam – U.S. National Whitewater Center

Good music and good beer: what else could you want? The Whitewater Center hosts bands every Thursday and Saturday night (7-10 pm) from May to December for their weekly concert series. Although there is a minimal $5 parking fee, admission to River Jam is completely free. Enjoy the beautiful views of the center as well as the vast food and craft beer selection to make your summer evenings perfect.
2. Lower McAlpine Creek, McMullen Creek, and Four Mile Creek Greenways

Check out these three connected greenways right in the center of South Charlotte. With entry points in Piper Glen, off Highway 51, and on Johnston Road, this beautiful stretch of trails is easily accessible by all. Boardwalks through scenic wetlands make these greenways especially attractive, aside from the fact that they are completely free to use.
3. Levine Museum of the New South
Location: 200 E. 7th St., Charlotte NC 28202Admission to this high-end downtown museum isn’t always free, but if you know the schedule, you would be pleasantly surprised! Every Sunday the Levine Museum opens its doors to the public for free from 12-5 pm. Not only is the art breathtaking, but the museum validates parking at the 7th Street Station parking deck at no cost.
4. Party in the Park – Romare Bearden Park
Location: 300 S. Church St., Charlotte NC 28202
Looking for some weekday fun uptown that won’t cost a fortune? Check out this series of “Uptown Sound” concerts located right across from the new BB&T Ballpark. All guests are welcome to set up picnics and relax or dance around to the mix of jazz, rock, and country bands that play there every Wednesday night (6-9 pm) through August.
5.Comedy Open Mic Night – Smelly Cat Coffeehouse
Location: 514 E. 36th St., Charlotte NC 28205Check out this super cool coffeehouse in NoDa every Saturday from 7:30-9 pm if you’re looking for a good laugh! Step out of your comfort zone and give stand-up a try, or take it all in as an audience member. The choice is yours, but either way, beer and wine are served to help calm your nerves.
