Summer is here and along with this glorious season comes sunnier days and one of America’s favorite holidays – Independence Day. This year the 4^th of July lands on a Monday, which provides many with a long weekend to celebrate with friends, family and loved ones. And with fabulous summer weather, it’s the perfect excuse to get out there and have some fun under the sun. There’s plenty you can do locally or even at home this year, so we’ve put together a list of activities for you to consider to ensure you have a great holiday weekend.  

Host a patriotic picnic or BBQ

Whether you’re enjoying fireworks in your very own neighborhood or visiting a park, the big show isn’t until the end of the night, which leaves the day totally open. Round up your crew and host a picnic or BBQ. Incorporate red, white and blue colors for an American feel; play an American sport like baseball or even just a board game of Monopoly; and listen to patriotic songs. Best part is you can host this picnic in your backyard, the beach or local park.

Volunteer or attend a parade

Independence Day is a great time to reflect on what truly makes America such a great place to live, like the people. Take some time during the long holiday weekend to volunteer at a local shelter or simply do some late spring cleaning and donate anything you don’t need to those in need. Many cities also host parades with music, marching bands, patriotic décor, vendors and more. It’s a great opportunity to support local businesses and show your American pride.

Day activities before the big show

4^th of July celebrations tend to be an all-day event, and with summer in full swing, you’re going to want some water activities to help the kids (and maybe even the adults) burn off some energy and stay cool.  From a water balloon fight made up of red, white and blue balloons, to simply turning on the sprinklers and letting the kids play, there are plenty of ways to keep everyone busy and fresh throughout.
