Prepare to be Floored with Expert Advice and Tips for Choosing the Right Rugs

Purchasing one of Lennar’s new homes for sale in Dallas, TX can leave you feeling carpet-bombed with big choices and major decisions. Don’t let those homebuying stresses pull the rug out from under your dream to design the home you’ve always wanted.

Interior designers recommend starting from the ground up: rugs. After cruising the web so that you don’t have to, we’ve covered the most important part of your home—your floor.

“I see rugs in our homes as shoes are to a well-dressed outfit,” The Interior Design Editor says. “You wouldn’t go to the trouble of selecting your best outfit for a night out and then go barefooted.”

Well, it is delightful to pad around barefoot in your favorite spaces. Rugs provide comfort and warmth, especially on hardwood or tiled flooring. They also absorb sound. Those are rugs’ functions. Now for form. Rugs can determine an entire home’s feel, flavor, and fun.

In his book, The Curated Home, noted interior designer Grant K. Gibson, offers questions to consider when choosing rug:  “Traditional, formal, elegant? Playful, humorous, inviting? Monochromatic, streamlined, modern?”

Yes, size matters. “The proper size is going to make a huge difference in how the final space is going to look and whether it anchors the room successfully,” says New York-based textile designer Malene Barnett.

Designers offer the latest “rules.” Place your furniture’s front two feet, ideally all four, on top of the rug. Textures such as shaggy, sisal and flat-woven add distinctiveness between rooms. Patterns and colors reflect your personality: bold, muted, geometric, post-modern.

Rugs don’t have to be square, either. They don’t even have to decorate floors—royalty dressed walls with handwoven tapestries. And rugs can and should be used in every room.

Whether you purchase a 1,004-square-foot cottage in Lennar’s Trinity Crossing with new homes for sale in Forney, TX or 2,750 square feet in Frisco Springs Royals, choose inviting rugs that draw people in and create pathways in Lennar’s open-concept designs, and, yes, to tie the room together.
