Prepping for Winter in Florida: A Beginner’s Guide

With temperatures dropping across much of the nation, people are preparing for cold weather: emptying gutters, stocking up on salt for the driveway, cleaning the fireplace, and so the list goes. But in Florida, we have a much warmer way of welcoming the season…

Our temperatures dip to the low 70s on only a handful of days and winter in our area feels much more like “swinter,” a summery winter. That said, in the bracing spirit of the season, Floridians buy a few thin cardigans, invest in some new aquatic toys, and… spend even more time outside!

Here’s our guide to basking in Florida’s coveted winter lifestyle for those who are getting ready to experience it for the first time:

1. Engage in (Melted) Snow Activities

Traditional winter activities include snowball fights, sledding, skiing, snowboarding, and the like. But lacking snow, we Floridians have to get creative and our winter activities turn into melted-snow activities:

  • Snowball fights → splash fights
  • Sledding → water sliding
  • Snow skiing → water skiing
  • Snowboarding → surfing

In Lennar communities like Magnolia Trails in Davie, an ideal day comprises drinking pumpkin spiced lattes iced, while lounging poolside after a refreshing dip in the swimming pool.

Or spend winter break playing with your kids in the exciting splash park at Cascata at MiraLago.

2. Get Cozy in Minimal Coverage

Even on our coolest days, temperatures don’t get that low and it’s usually warm again by noon, so stocking up on winter gear is quite the easy feat, especially with Lennar’s spacious closets. The basics are simple: use layers that you can gradually remove as the day progresses! A top and cardigan are ideal for cool strolls around beautiful communities, like Satori and AquaBella. For more active homeowners, layers do well when your morning walks turn into runs more often than not, and Lennar communities offer plentiful paths adorned with lush landscaping to explore day after day.

3. Revel in Remarkable Weather

Winter in Florida is arguably the best time of year because there is always a breeze, and neither bugs nor humidity are an issue. It’s the perfect time to spend your mornings drinking coffee or tea and reading your favorite book on the patio in your Magnolia Trails townhome. At night, capture the festive winter essence by relaxing outside with hot chocolate and holiday music.

Florida’s climate allows you to enjoy the best of both seasons–summer and winter–especially when living in Lennar’s grand communities, where you can jump in a resort-style pool one day and make delicious smores in the patio the next!
