Tips for Hosting Holiday Parties

You’ve sent out invitations. You’ve picked out your tacky sweater. But what else does it take to put together the perfect holiday party? This blog is your map to planning out the perfect party, from what sort of snacks to serve, which games to play, and how to decorate. Plus, there’s an easy recipe for an easy alcoholic hot chocolate at the end for the adults at the party.

Crowd-Pleasing Snacks

When you’ve got Jack Frost knocking at your door, keep your guests warm inside with some slow-cooker grape jelly meatballs. Grape jelly on meatballs may sound odd, but have faith: these tasty little morsels are going to be your new go-to at every party from here on out, and your guests will thank you for it. For some vegetarian fare, check out these parmesan-crusted Brussels sprouts. Yes, Brussels sprouts. They’re good for you, and they’re delicious.

Games for Guests

Once you’re warmed by the food in your belly, it’s time for festivities to begin! Make sure to let all of your guests know they should come bundled up in their ugliest sweater and set up a tacky holiday contest! Set up a jar and let people anonymously vote, and make sure you bring your “A”-game! After all, a host should set a good example. When you want things to quiet down, try a game of holiday charades, where your guests act out words like reindeer, Grinch, and even Saint Nick himself.

Dash through Paper Snow

When your guests arrive at your holiday party, make sure they know they’re at the right home. String lights around your mailbox and the perimeter of your roof, and make a DIY wreath for your front door. If you’re feeling extra festive, line your mantle with stockings stuffed with goodie bags for each one of your guests!

Twisted Hot Chocolate

While your guests are sure to be a fan of any holiday beverage you serve, this Kahlúa hot chocolate is definitely going to be what leaves people thinking about your holiday party all year long.

You’ll need:

2 cups milk

2 tablespoons sugar

1 ½ tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

¼ teaspoon cinnamon

Pinch of nutmeg

1 ounce Kahlúa coffee liqueur

Follow these steps:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cocoa powder, cinnamon and nutmeg over medium heat until heated through, about 3 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in Kahlúa. Serve immediately, and enjoy responsibly!

Whether you’re hosting a few close personal friends or having the whole department over for a holiday party, these tips are an easy way to make sure that your party is a success that has people looking forward to the holidays year after year.
