SUMMERVILLE, SC (WTAT-TV) — When a veteran is done serving their time, they are done moving around the world, but they need somewhere to call home. Operation FINALLY HOME is a nonprofit organization that provides homes and home modifications to America’s military heroes and the widows of the fallen. They partner with corporate sponsors, builder associations, builders, remodelers, developers, individual contributors and volunteers to help these heroes and their families to have a place to call home.
One of these sponsors, Lennar Homes and Operation FINALLY HOME, will present U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Matthew Weise and his family with the keys to their new, mortgage-free Lennar home on June 14th. Matthew was deployed 6 times over his 15-year service, injured during 3 combat tours and suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury. He has received 2 Purple Heart Medals, 2 Bronze Star Medals, 2 Valorous Unit Awards, a Combat Infantryman Badge, and many more.
His new home brings him closer to his immediate family, and close to Cane Bay schools for his children. To give him the most ease and comfort possible for his PTSD side effects, Lennar built many accommodations in the house such as a soundproof master bedroom to serve as a sanctuary during Matthew’s severe migraines and redesigned the master bathroom layouts for any future wheelchair accommodations.
Lennar invites you to join in on the celebration during the Home Dedication Ceremony and home tour on the morning of Friday, June 14th. The event will take place at Lindera Preserve at Cane Bay Plantation (117 Lindera Preserve Blvd, Summerville, SC 29483) at 10:00 AM. Come support one of our local heroes and his family as they receive the keys to their new HOME!
