Helpful home life hacks

This last year, we might not have had as many visitors as we would have hoped. For some, that could mean that our maintenance might not have been as up to date as before. But no worries – Lennar has you covered. We came up with a list of things you definitely want to get taken care of around your house. Not only will it improve the aesthetic of your home, but it may potentially help with future problems that can cost you. So, take a few moments each day to make sure everything in your home is up to date, organized, maintained and ready for years to come.

Doormats

Add a mat to trap more dirt by using one outside and one inside the door. To refresh, hose off and air-dry mats and be sure to vacuum indoor ones on both sides.

Ceiling fans

Check the blades of your fans, sometimes you can spot some unwanted dust build up!

Junk drawer

Once you empty out your drawer, use your vacuum’s nozzle to get dust and crumbs. Move items out that don’t belong there and toss the ones you no longer need. Repurpose pretty plates and bowls to store cords, stamps, and other odds and ends. Consider a nonslip liner to help keep everything in place.

Shower curtains

Stick plastic or vinyl shower curtains along with a few bath towels on the gentle cycle with your favorite detergent. Let it hang dry before showering. To keep the curtain cleaner longer, spritz it a few times each month with a bleach-containing all-purpose cleaner or there are shower sprays made just for this purpose.

Closet

Go through clothes and shoes from the season that has just ended. Remove anything stained, in need of repair, worn out or never worn. Try on anything you’re unsure about before giving it closet space.

Add some color

A fresh coat of paint on the walls – in a bright color or plain neutral – can create a fun work area or a serene thinking space, respectively.

Rotate the mattress

Don’t wear and tear the first and last thing you rest on every day. Set a good habit of getting the most out of your mattress by flipping it every new season.

Vacuum under the bed

Can you remember the last time you did that? Give each room a good clean before you have family stay with you.

Prepare an emergency kit for the car and home

With the weather changing and a new season approaching, you never know when an accident may occur. Prepare an emergency kit for your car and home to be ready for the unexpected.

Clean the refrigerator

Removing old food and cleaning the fridge shelves, drawers and exterior will bring cleanliness and longevity to your appliances.

Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

Before the season of candles, decorations, and for some even fireplace usage, be sure your detectors are working. If you’re not on a routine battery change schedule, start one now. Keep you and your family safe by making this a priority!
