With the holiday season quickly approaching, now is the time to begin preparing. One thing everyone loves- welcome gifts! You don’t want to forget about your new neighbors who have recently moved into your community. These are the people who can become a staple in your life for a few years or even decades!

What is something everyone loves during the holidays- or really any day- COOKIES! Who doesn’t have a sweet tooth after a big meal? A great way to make your new neighbors feel welcome this holiday season is a simple treat. “Cookies in a Jar” are sure to be loved by everyone.

This is a fun way to get the entire family of all ages involved in some festive cheer. The kids will love helping combine all the ingredients and probably sneaking a few chocolate chips along the way. You can even have them write a special card to say welcome and Happy Holidays. Here’s what you need to make these holiday treats come alive!

• Mason Jar
• 1 ¾ cups of all-purpose flour
• ¾ teaspoon baking soda
• ¾ teaspoon salt
• ½ cup granulated sugar
• ¾ cup brown sugar
• 1 ½ cups chocolate chips
• Ribbon

Simply combine flour, baking soda, and salt, add this to the bottom of your jar. Next up- sugar! Just layer the white and brown sugar then top it off with chocolate chips. Of course, feel free to add as many as you like… remember it’s the time to indulge a bit so be kind with your amount of chocolate chips!

All your happy neighbors will need to complete their treats is ¾ cup of butter and an egg! That’s right, that’s it. You can also whip up a small directional card to tie to the jar- check out this example below! You can type this up and print on some fun holiday paper. If you want to take an extra step, find some fun cookie cutters and tie them to the jars!

Once you have your jars looking festive and ready to go, this is perfect gift to drop off on your neighbor’s front porch! Don’t forget about your kids’ homemade card, your neighbors will cherish their artwork. This is a sure-fire way to bring you closer with your neighbors and spread some holiday cheer!
