Once a year, Veterans Day celebrates America’s heroes who fought for freedoms we enjoy every day. The holiday commemorating our fellow citizens who served in our nation’s armed forces takes place on Nov. 11, Armistice Day, when World War I ended in 1919.

This year, America marks the 100^th anniversary of the nation’s entrance into that War to End All Wars. Congress originally called the commemorative day Armistice Day, but then-President Dwight Eisenhower changed the name to Veterans Day in 1954.

That happened to be the same year Lennar was founded, and we’re proud that one of our founders, Arnold P. Rosen, served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Holiday celebrations take place all weekend virtually around the corner from any of Lennar’s nearly 100 Lennar communities throughout the Metroplex.

Watch the “massing of the colors” at Dallas City Hall on Nov. 12. Salute military servicemen and women in historic downtown Grapevine with a Nov. 10 parade—one of several parades throughout Dallas-Fort Worth.

Farmers Branch, surrounded by more than a dozen Lennar communities, such as University Place in Dallas to the exciting new River Walk at Central Park offers a special event. The small city in north Dallas kicks off the holiday weekend with the Victory Belles, a song-and-dance troupe from the World War II Museum in New Orleans, on Nov. 9.

McKinney, which boasts three Lennar communities, celebrates with “Red White & The Blues Free Veterans Day Concert” on Nov. 8 at the McKinney Performing Arts Center’s Courtroom Theater. Big Band hits will take you back to the days of World War II.

In Frisco, home to 19 Lennar communities, a parade takes place downtown on Nov. 10. And in historic Fort Worth, which boasts nearly a dozen Lennar communities, Sundance Square will be filled with celebratory sights, sounds and salutes.

Of course, you can honor your own favorite hometown heroes: family members and neighbors who served in the Armed Forces. Take advantage of your community’s amenities with a block party or a neighborhood cookout around the pool. Organize a carpool to take part in the vast array of area festivities. Organize your own community parade.
