Keep Cool with our Key Summer Home Maintenance Checklist

The start of a new season means it’s a great time to look around your home and identify some key maintenance items that will keep your home beautiful and in top-notch shape for years to come. Follow our list of hot items below so you won’t have to sweat the small stuff all summer long!

1. Power wash your home exterior

You are proud of your beautiful new home and its stunning curb appeal. So, let’s keep it that way! Avoid any deep stains in the driveway, dirty decks or entryways along with built up debris by renting a power washer and go to town. In an hour or two you’ll be back to a home that sparkles and shines like brand-new.

2. Freshen up your landscaping

It’s easy to get behind on your yards and before you know it, you have dead grass or a huge overgrown mess on your hands. Avoid a landscaping mess by paying careful attention to it throughout the year and refreshing it as the seasons change. Your landscaping should reflect the climate you live in, so talk to anyone at your local plant store to make smart choices.

3. Prepare for bug intruders

We all welcome summer and the warm weather, but nobody enjoys all the pesky mosquitos that come with it. Remove leaves from gutters, try to eliminate any still water in areas around your home, make sure your trash cans are tightly sealed and break out the citronella to help keep their numbers down.

4. Let the sunshine in

Summer is a great time to wash your windows, inside and out from top to bottom. All you need is to grab a bucket with some soapy warm water and Windex, then scrub away. Doing this once or twice a year will help reduce grim buildup and keep them looking fresh and brand new.

5. Prepare the breeze

There are several ways you can help keep your whole family cool this summer. Replace filters in your air conditioning unit to keep it working at an optimal state. You can also reverse your ceiling fans by flicking a switch on the fan. It will allow it to spin counterclockwise, which in turn will help push cool air down.

6. Clean the baseboards

Often, we don’t take the time to do this during a regular house clean but if you make sure to do it every couple of months it will help keep your home looking great. Just get a damp cloth and get down on your hands and knees along the trim and scrub. A little bit of time spent now will save you in the long run.

7. Clean out the fridge and cabinets

Every couple of months is enough time for unused condiments to start creating an odor and uneaten food to go bad. The start of summer is a great opportunity to give the fridge a cleanout, wipe it down and throw away any old food left that’s past its prime.
