Take a look to see which trends inspire you and which you’re excited to incorporate into your home this year!
1. Brown is Back
In the past few years we’ve seen a demand for neutral interiors, highlighting various shades of white, taupe and grey. While this is still popular today, one neutral hue is taking 2024 by the reigns: brown. That’s right, brown is back! You’ll see shades of brown, from chocolate to cinnamon, all throughout the fashion and interior design industries this year. This resurgence of brown brings warmth to your home and is versatile enough to range from bold to classic, understated tones. Whether you’re wanting to paint the walls, add upholstered elements like pillows, rugs and blankets, or bring in larger wooden furniture pieces, the options are endless.
2. Victorian Revival
Blending old with new isn’t necessarily a new theme in the design world, but the specific eras that get referenced are what make them a current trend. Because many of these design styles are timeless, attainable and involve blending new with antique pieces, it’s a theme that continues to dominate.
This year we’re expecting to see a surge of Victorian Revival, which is really a fun time period for anyone who loves mixing pieces in their home. This trend focuses on the Victorian era and Gilded Age styles – think antique floral and animal motif wallpaper, intricate details, ornate metal pieces, lush fabrics and maximalist, antique décor pieces like older trunks and chandeliers. If you lean toward a minimalist style, try incorporating this trend with fun bedding or art prints!
3. Jewel Tones
Rich jewel tones like garnet, sapphire, emerald and amethyst are going to be big this year. These colors play seamlessly with the other design trends on our list and can be paired with shades of brown, styled with Victorian or artisanal elements and so much more! Don’t be afraid to fully embrace any jewel tone colors that speaks to you – you have our permission to paint or wallpaper an entire room with the hue of your choice! Or, if you’d rather keep it simple, try incorporating upholstered accents like throw pillows, blankets and other textiles in extravagant fabrics such as velvet, silk and more to really make your interior space pop.
4. Artisanal Details
Handcrafted and artisanal décor pieces make the perfect finishing touches to accessorize your space. Unique items, such as a clay pot, ceramic vase, woven basket or handmade blanket bring character and dimension to your home. The beauty in artisanal pieces is that they feel like they’re one-of-a-kind, showcase organic curves or linework and can serve as investment pieces that will work with trends for years to come. Each item tells a story and provides a layered look for added interest.
5. Unique shaped mirrors
Mirrors are fantastic for bringing in additional interest and focal points to any room, from the dining room to the bedroom. Plus, their light-reflecting benefits can make your space feel larger and brighter. We’re seeing a shift toward unique shaped and designed mirrors when it comes to home décor. Try choosing a fun silhouette, unique boarder materials or a distinctive shape to add an element into any room that’s both unexpected and whimsy!
