In
2019 we’re looking at some dazzling interior design eye candy. According to
designers, it’s all about “maximist” interiors with big, bright, bold colors,
patterns, daring contrast, rebellious textile pairings, organic shapes, natural
materials, and luxe accessories.
Here’s
your 2019 interior design forecast:
Pantone’s color of the year – Living Coral says it all – coral is in. Their team described it as “sociable and spirited” and we couldn’t agree more. Expect to see bright shades of coral mixed with peach, orange, and blush pink taking over living rooms and bedrooms this year.
In addition to coral, we expect to see shades of green to pop-up and pop out. Think emerald green sofas, accent pillows, chaise lounges, vases and of course in the various plants brightening our homes. Designers predict the 1920s Art Deco greens will make a serious comeback in a more modern way.
According to CEO of Interior Define, Rob Royer, blush tones are this year’s neutral. “(Blush tones) can be combined with bold colors like navy, forest green, or citrine, and it allows the bold color to be the hero.”
No, terrazzo is not going anywhere. We began to see this trend take off in 2018 and it’s bigger than ever in 2019. In fact, according to interior designer Sasha Bikoff, “the biggest interior design trend of 2019 is terrazzo.” Designers are taking this look to a new level and it’s terrazzo-tastic. We’re looking at terrazzo patterned wallpaper, carpets, tiles and of course the classic coffee tables and side tables.
2019 design predictions stated that the ‘70s were so -four-decades-ago, however, mid-century modern remains. Fortunately, the green and coral color trends of 2019 pair perfectly with the structure and finish of last year’s mid-century modern pieces.
If you’ve been holding on to tired white oak dressers and coffee tables waiting for them to make a comeback, get ahead of the curve with a DIY project and update them to match one of the hottest 2019 trends – oxidized oak. This one simple change will transform what you’re already working with. Not only will you update what you already have you’ll be ticking another 2019 trend box – “a return to handcrafted authenticity” and handmade pieces.
We’re all feeling a bit over the bohemian style kitchen with open shelving and concrete countertops. This year we’re putting the doors back on the cabinets and looking at more functional kitchens with fine millwork details, authentic period hardware and appliances, and classic stone surfaces. Designers predict plenty of natural wood, stone, and shiplap for all those Joanne Gaines fans out there.
We’ll be seeing more organic shapes this year when it comes to aesthetics and furniture. Think 1970s inspired rounded back velvet chairs, round gilded coffee tables, and end tables. Even light fixtures will take on more of an organic shape in 2019.
Going with the “maximist” shift, designers predict plenty of pattern play. Mismatching different patterned accent pillows, rugs, tiles, and accessories will be a fun, bold and challenging trend to try this season.
While
trends are fun to keep up with, when it comes to your home it’s all about
personal preference- you’re the one living there after all. If you’re curious
