Lennar Seattle Supports Local Non-Profit Aimed at Ending Homelessness

ending homelessness

Federal Way, Wash. – September 2019 – Lennar Seattle has teamed up with FUSION, a local nonprofit organization who provides housing and support services to homeless families in the area. From sponsoring fundraisers to helping to rebuild and repair some of Fusion’s homes they provide to homeless families, Lennar is proud to shed some light on all the amazing things the organization does.

FUSION is an all-volunteer non-profit organization who defines themselves as friends to shelter the indignant, oppressed and those in need. Their mission is to provide housing and support services to the homeless in their community in order to provide a safe and secure environment as they work toward self-sufficiency.

Launched in 1993 by Peggy LaPorte and a small group of women, the organization got off the ground through grassroots efforts to raise money. Within two years they raised enough funds to purchase a one-bedroom condominium with a community grant and provided a home for their first residents: a mother and her infant child, victims of domestic violence.

FUSION focused its services on helping women and children while another local organization, the Joseph Foundation, operated separately to provide similar services with a focus on single and dual-parent families. They operated independently for 15 years, before realizing they shared the same vision and provide a stronger service by partnering, as they did in January of 2009.

Together, FUSION now operates 10 condos, three single-family homes, a duplex, and a fourplex as transitional housing for those in need.

The organization is able to do incredible work and has an unusually high success rate, due in part to their strong commitment to their clients, professionally-trained advocates, holistic approach into all the benefits they provide and to their contracting case management services for client families.

They partner with Catholic Community Services to provide their families with case managers who meet with them weekly to learn about applying for effectively using the resources that are available to them. High on their list is training for job skills that will eventually support the family, and empowering clients to become self-sufficient and break the cycle of poverty, abuse and all other factors that led them to homelessness.

Today, FUSION has given more than 200 families a chance to rebuild their lives and move-on from perpetually homelessness to a productive and secure life. More than 85 percent of guest families successfully find permanent housing following their stay in one of FUSION’s homes.
