Setting up a Nursery

Congratulations on your bundle of joy! Once you have moved into your new Lennar home to accommodate your growing family, setting up the nursery is probably high on your to do list. There are endless photos online you can browse through to get decorating inspiration, but we want to focus on the basics to help make sure you are prepared for your new arrival.

Here are a few tips for setting up your nursery.

Plan your furniture. Look at the room and plan where the furniture will go. Babies don’t need a lot of space, so start with the essential furniture: a place for baby to sleep, a place for changing diapers,  a place to sit, and a place for storage. If the room allows, you can also think about a place for baby to play, and additional storage options or décor. The goal is to create a functional space that makes baby and parents happy. Avoid placing the crib by the window so that the light won’t disturb the baby’s sleep. Know the room’s measurements before purchasing furniture to make sure the furniture will fit.

Have everything you need within arm’s reach. You never want to be too far away from your little one, so make sure you have what you need close by and easily accessible. For example: think through the baby changing process and what is needed. Typically, you’ll need clean diapers, wipes, and cream. Your diaper pail should be right next to the changing station. And in case of a blowout (this WILL happen!) you’ll need clean clothes and the hamper near by as well. This is for your convenience, but also for the baby’s safety.

Create a comfortable place for yourself to nurse/feed. You’ll be spending a lot of time feeding the baby, so make sure you have a comfortable place to do so. You can’t go wrong with a rocking chair, since babies love to fall asleep to that rocking motion. But there are many options out there to choose from, so you’ll be sure to find one that fits your needs and style.

Have a system for storage and organization. Babies come with a lot of stuff! If you’re going to stay on top of it all, you’re going to need a plan. You should have the things you will use right away stored where it will be easy to grab. Then designate a place for everything else. Have an area to store extra diapers, wipes, garbage bags and other supplies. Organize the baby’s clothes by size, and store the larger sizes out of the way until needed. Have a box or bag for clothes that are deemed too small, and once it becomes full, wash the clothes, label them and store them away.

Keep your baby safe. Baby may not be able to move around the room much at first, but that day comes sooner than you realize! So go ahead and baby proof the room now to put your mind at ease. Anchor the furniture, cover the outlets, and secure anything that baby can grab. You’ll also want to set up a baby monitoring system. Since Lennar homes have been heat map engineered to ensure there are no wifi dead spots in your home, you can confidently set up your monitoring system to keep an eye on your child at any given time.

Once you have your essential items, you can move on to the décor items such as lighting and pictures. As your baby grows, their needs may change, and you can shift and change the room with it.
