Gobble Up This Year’s Thanksgiving Turkey with a Texas Twist

When the rest of the world gets chilly around the holiday season, Texans get chili. That’s right, buckaroos, it’s Thanksgiving in the Lone Star State, time to dish up all the flavors and fragrances you’d expect here in these parts.

But first, a story: Years ago, a dear friend, Phil, a Texas newspaper photographer with quite the eye for a good holiday prank, saw his neighbor’s turkey smoking on the backyard grill. Barbecuing a bird lasts about the length of a football game … plenty long enough for Phil to sneak next door and replace the turkey with a roasted Cornish game hen.

We can pretty much assure you that your turkey won’t dehydrate to a third the size, but we can also share links to some Thanksgiving recipes that are sure to make you smile. They’re even easier when you prepare them in your Everything’s Included® kitchen.

Here’s a recipe for smoked turkey breasts with a rub featuring chili powder and cayenne to put some yippie-yi-yay into your Texas-style bird. Speaking of chilies, here’s another mouthwatering turkey recipe, this one from Dallas’s marquee chef Dean Fearing.

Turkeys are even tastier if they’re free-range, from a farm near one of Lennar’s rural communities, such as the new homes for sale in Fate, TX, and new homes for sale in Forney, TX. Pasilla peppers, the dark, wrinkly chilies that aren’t nearly as hot as jalapeños, are the star of this savory delight.

You can find farm-to-table fixin’s around the corner from any of Lennar’s new homes for sale in Dallas, TX, or you can order your perfectly cooked turkey from any number of stores and restaurants. Here’s a list of take-out places from the Dallas Morning-News, but call first.
