Lennar and Helping a Hero Partner to Break Ground on a New Home for a Sergeant

Lennar, one of the nation’s leading homebuilders, has partnered with non-profit organization Helping a Hero, which provides support for military personnel severely injured in the war on terror. Lennar will break ground on Tuesday, October 1, for a future home that will be delivered to a sergeant.

The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking event starting at 10 am at the Armed Forces Tribute Park at Parque del Rio, located at 15700 S. Rancho Sahuarita Blvd, Sahuarita, AZ 85629.

Sergeant Tanner House, USA (Ret) is set to receive a brand-new three-bedroom, two-bath wheelchair-accessible home. Designed specifically for his mobility needs, this adaptive home will be equipped with unique features like wider doorways and a roll-in shower that will allow Tanner to live independently and safely.

Sergeant House’s journey exemplifies resilience and the enduring strength of veterans. Born in Glendale, AZ, he followed in his family’s military footsteps by joining the U.S. Army at the age of 18 as a Motor Transport Operator. After completing Airborne School, he served with the 1st Special Forces Group and later deployed to Afghanistan with the 10th Special Forces Group during Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

During a resupply mission, Sergeant House tragically sustained a severe spinal injury in a loading accident involving a CH-47 Chinook helicopter. After undergoing multiple surgeries and a lengthy rehabilitation, he was medically discharged in 2018. His return to civilian life brought numerous challenges, including a period of homelessness. This new home will represent a new beginning for Tanner, allowing him to live independently and safely.

“We are deeply honored to recognize Sergeant Tanner House’s incredible service and sacrifice,” said Tom Gansheimer, Division President of Lennar Tucson. “This home is more than just a place to live – it’s a step toward easing the challenges he has faced, providing comfort and removing physical barriers so he can focus on his continued journey of healing and resilience.”

Special attendees will include Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ District 6, U.S. House), Tom Murphy, Mayor of Sahuarita, Jeremy Sharpe, owner and developer of Rancho Sahuarita, Thomas Gansheimer, Division President of Lennar Tucson, Meredith Iler, Founder of the Helping a Hero Home Program and Staff Sergeant Ross Cox, USA (Ret).
