Garbage Disposal Care

Garbage disposal DOs and DON’Ts

Your new Lennar home includes many of the conveniences of modern living- one of the most useful being the garbage disposal in your kitchen sink. Proper care and usage will keep your disposal working great for many years to come!

DOs:

Refer to the manufacturer’s instruction for information on exactly how to use your garbage disposal.

Run cold water to wash down materials. Let water run long enough to carry particles down and into the main line to prevent buildup on the transit pipes.

Use the disposal regularly to prevent clogs and corrosion.

Keep hands and utensils out of the drain.

DON’Ts

Don’t put anything down the disposal that isn’t a biodegradable food item.

Don’t use it to dispose of large amounts of leftover food, including potato peels or eggshells.

Don’t put grease, oil or fat into the drain. Large bones and fibrous materials can damage the garbage disposal

Never place your hand into your garbage disposal.

Repairing a jammed disposal:

If your disposal is jammed, make sure the unit is turned off and unplugged. Then, take the special tool that comes with your disposal to work the gears free. Remove the jammed item. Once the unit is cleared, put it back together, press the reset button on the bottom and plug it in. It should now work normally.
